Ricky Thornton, Jr. swept the weekend in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition to pick up a pair of victories.

Thornton opened the weekend with a win at Raceway 7 in Monroe Center, Ohio on Friday. He followed that on Saturday with a victory at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pennsylvania.

On Friday, Thornton led wire-to-wire to score the win at Raceway 7. Thornton earned $12,000 for his 22nd series win of the season.

Devin Moran finished in second followed by Blairsville, Georgia’s Jonathan Davenport in third, Tim McCreadie in fourth, and Daulton Wilson in fifth.

“Overall, it was a good night for us,” Thornton said. “I felt like we qualified as good as we were going to. For us to be able to win the heat and start on the front row of the feature, it shows how good my guys work, we had a good car all night.”

On Saturday, Thornton, Jr. survived a back-and-forth battle with Jonathan Davenport to earn his second career Pittsburgher win in the last three years on at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.

Thornton took home $30,000 of the $100,000 feature purse.

Devin Moran, Tim McCreadie, Hudson O’Neal, and Earl Pearson, Jr. rounded out the top five.

“He (Davenport) was way better than I was,” Thornton said. “On the restarts I had to get back by Brandon (Overton) and I pretty much held it on the floor after that. I have got to thank Clements for building an awesome motor here it held up for the final 60 laps flat on the floor. I guess I wanted it a little bit more.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is slated to close out the 2023 season with the Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Friday and Saturday, October 20-21. For more information, visit LucasDirt.com.
