Doss Inherits SSS Win After Byron DQ’ed At Five Flags

William Byron crossed under the checkered flag first in Friday night’s Southern Super Series race at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get to keep the trophy.

The NASCAR Cup Series regular saw the apparent win go away when his car failed in post race technical inspection.

That elevated Jeremy Doss to victory lane, giving him the win.

Doss had dominated the opening stages of the race until relinquishing the lead to Byron with 36 laps to go. Doss chased Byron the rest of the way, and crossed the finish line in second, only to earn the victory post race.

Gio Ruggiero finished in second, with Jackson Boone in third, Hunter Robbins in fourth, and William Sawalich in fifth.

Stephen Nasse, Jett Noland, Travis Braden, Billy VanMeter, and Tony Elrod rounded out the top 10.

A massive 17-car melee broke out just five laps into the race. It started when Derek Thorn and Matt Craig got together going into turn 1. Timothy Watson’s car locked together with Thorn’s car, causing a log-jam midway through the field.

The Southern Super Series was slated to run a second race at Five Flags Speedway on Saturday night, only to see it washed out by wet weather. The event has been rescheduled for Friday, September 22.
