Brandon Overton and Chris Madden were both visited by the Easter Bunny early in Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series action over the holiday weekend.

Overton took the win on Friday night at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia, while Madden was victorious at Tennessee’s Tazewell Speedway on Saturday night.

On Friday, Overton used a dramatic last lap pass on Jonathan Davenport to score his second series win of the season at Wythe Raceway.

The Evans, Georgia speedster started on the outside of the second row for the 53-lap feature, an advanced steadily up to second din the first half of the race.

After hounding Davenport lap after lap around the half-mile speedplant during the last half of the event, Overton finally made his move heading into turn three on the final lap. His patience paid off in a big way, as Overton grabbed the point coming off of turn four and beat Davenport to the checkered flag by a mere 0.337 seconds to lay claim to the $10,053 payday.

Davenport, from Blairsville, Georgia, finished in second, with Chris Ferguson in third, Ross Bailes in fourth and Chickamauga, Georgia’s Dale McDowell in fifth.

“Awesome race there with me and JD,” said Overton. “It was just really hard to pass out there tonight and I really wanted to slide him earlier, but I knew I just needed to wait and wait. When I decided to finally make a move, I knew I needed to make it count. I just had to get a good run and then I could sail it off in the corner because my car would stick a lane lower than what he was running.”

On Saturday night, Chris Madden led wire-to-wire to score the win at Tazewell Speedway, taking home a $21,000 payday in the “Lil Bill Corum Memorial.”

The Gray Court, South Carolina racer started the 75-lap feature on the outside of the front row, and took the lead on the drop of the green flag from pole sitter Brandon Overton.

From there, Madden never relinquished the lead, as he went on to win by a 0.885 second margin.

Ricky Weiss followed in second, with Dale McDowell in third, Scott Bloomquist in fourth, and Dakotah Knuckles in fifth.

“I think Ricky (Weiss) had a little different tire combination than we had and he was able to get down there in that mud ring,” said Madden after recording his fifth overall win of 2022. “I think he was pretty good around that bottom, but we were good all race long and were able to get the job done.”

The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series will jump right back into action from April 21-23 in a tripleheader in the states of North Carolina and Tennessee. Things will kick off this Thursday night with a rain-postponed visit to Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina, followed by a trip on Friday evening to Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway. Action wraps up on Saturday night at Tennessee’s Clarksville Speedway.
