Brandon Overton and Dale McDowell closed out the 2019 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series season with wins over the weekend.

Overton opened the weekend with a win at Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway on Thursday night. McDowell swept the final two races at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee on Friday and at Tennessee’s Tazewell Speedway on Saturday night.

Overton would wrap up the series championship in the process.

On Thursday night, Brandon Overton took the $3,500 win at Crossville Speedway. It marked the third straight win in the event for the Evans, Georgia native, as well as the 13 of his series career.

Overton took the lead at the start, with Dakotah Knuckles Jason Jameson, Donald McIntosh, and Cory Hedgecock in pursuit. The first caution waved on lap 11 as disaster struck Hedgecock when he spun in turn two while battling for the fourth position with Knuckles.

On the restart, Overton and Jameson pulled away from the pack, with McIntosh holding third. The second caution of the race would wave on lap 23 when Kenny Cobble rolled to a stop on the front stretch.

Back under green, Overton and Jameson again began to pull away. Third place running McIntosh would bring out the final caution of the night on lap 29 with a flat right-rear tire.

The final restart saw Overton pull to score the victory, with Jameson in second. Michael Chilton finished in third, with Tanner English in fourth and Jake Knowles in fifth.

On Friday night, Dale McDowell led all 53 laps en route to the win at 411 Motor Speedway.

The win in the caution free feature gave the Chickamauga, Georgia speedster a $10,000 payday.

McDowell took the lead at the start of the feature, with Brandon Overton, Donald McIntosh, Ryan King, and Dakotah Knuckles in pursuit. McDowell and Overton marched their way through slower traffic up front while the pack battled behind them.

The final 20 laps saw McDowell dogged by Overton, as Overton challenged several times for the point. McDowell flashed under the checkered flag first, with Overton in second. McIntosh finished in third, with Kyle Strickler in fourth and Ross Bailes in fifth.

On Saturday night, McDowell doubled up to close the season with a win at Tazewell Speedway, taking the $10,053 winner’s payday.

Kyle Strickler grabbed the race early race lead at the start of the 53-lap feature feature, with Brandon Overton, McDowell, Ross Bailes, and Michael Chilton in pursuit. Disaster struck Chilton on lap two when he made contact with the outside retaining wall in turn two to draw the only caution of the event, ending his night.

Strickler brought the field back to the green flag, with McDowell driving past Overton for the second place. Strickler started working slower traffic on lap 11, allowing McDowell to his back bumper. Strickler slipped up the racing surface in turn one on lap 13, allowing McDowell to power to the lead.

McDowell went on to score the win, with Overton, Strickler, Bailes and Jason Trammell rounding out the top five.

Overton second placed finish wrapped up the 2019 series championship title. Overton scored three series victories en route to the championship, winning at Wythe Raceway, Smoky Mountain Speedway and Crossville Speedway. It’s his second career series championship, with the first coming in 2017.
