Ronnie McCarty passed his teammate, Lance Gatlin, for the lead just past the halfway point of Friday night’s Late Model Stock Car feature at Tennessee’s Kingsport Speedway, and drove to his second victory of the season.

McCarty was fastest in qualifying at 14.982 seconds to narrowly edge out Hayden Woods. The roll of the dice inverted the top four from time trials, putting Gatlin on the pole with Nik Williams on the outside of the front row.

Gatlin grabbed the lead on the start over Williams, McCarty, Woods and Bryson Dennis. McCarty immediately went to work trying to overtake Williams for the second spot, and it didn’t take long before he completed the pass. Setting his sights ahead on leader Gatlin, he quickly closed to his back bumper.

McCarty got up on the wheel to pass Gatlin for the lead and once out front he never looked back, as he went on to capture his second win of the season. Woods finished in second, followed by Williams in third, Zeke Shell in fourth and Gatlin in fifth.

Dennis, Joey Trent, Derek Lane, Wayne Hale and Keith Helton rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Alex Miller scored his first Modified Street feature victory, with Rusty Clendenin in second, Royce Peters in third, Austin Peters in fourth and Kevin Canter in fifth.

Keith Helton maneuvered his way past Brandon Sutherland late in the Pure 4 feature to capture his sixth feature win on the season. Sutherlan came home in second, with Bruce Crumbley in third, Josh Detwiler in fourth and Bucky Smith in fifth.

Dennis Arnold captured his first Mod 4 victory of the season. Kevin Canter, Billy Duty, Hershell Robinette and Chris Amburgey rounded out the top five.

Doug Austin sped to his division-leading seventh Pure Street win over Tony Dockery in second. Kevin Darnell followed in third, with Skylar Schmalzried in fourth and Mike Mays in fifth.
