Dale McDowell and Chris Ferguson opened up the 2019 Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series season with a pair of Peach State wins over the weekend.

McDowell was the winner on Friday night at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler, Georgia, while Ferguson scored the victory at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, Georgia on Saturday.

On Friday night, McDowell, of Chickamauga, Georgia, grabbed the lead away from Toccoa, Georgia’s Casey Roberts on lap 18, and went on to score the victory in the series first ever visit to Oglethorpe Speedway Park.

Roberts and McDowell led the field to the green flag in the 40 lap feature, with Roberts getting the jump on the bottom side to take the point. McDowell would grab the lead away from Roberts on a lap-17 restart and never look back on his way to the victory.

Ashton Winger of Senoia, Georgia and Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Georgia rounded out an all Georgia top four, while Tim McCreadie came home in fifth.

On Saturday night, Chris Ferguson collected $10,000 with his first career Spring Nationals Series victory at Cochran Motor Speedway.

Ferguson grabbed the lead away from Ross Bailes on lap three and never looked back on the way to becoming the 26th different winner in 55 Spring Nationals events to date.

Ferguson has now captured wins on all three of the Ray Cook-promoted tours (Spring, Southern (summer) and Bonus Series (now Fall Nationals).

Polesitter Ross Bailes and Ferguson brought the 23-car-field to the green flag with both drivers in hot pursuit of the point. They would both battle it out for the top spot with Ferguson ultimately coming out ahead on the third circuit.

Three cautions slowed the field on laps 30, 41 and 54. After the final yellow with six laps to go, Ferguson held off fifth-starting Michael Page for the payday.

McDowell, McIntosh and Travis Pennington rounded out the top five.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series returns to action on Friday, March 29 for their first-ever visit to Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama. The series will then move to Georgia’s Senoia Raceway on Saturday, March 30.
