Winder-Barrow, Anderson, Kingsport Open This Weekend

One of the signs that spring is upon us is the opening of several more short tracks around the southeast.

Among them is Georgia’s venerable quarter-mile Winder-Barrow Speedway, which plans to open this Saturday, March 23.

While speedway officials have not published a regular schedule for the season, the Northeast Georgia dirt track is expected to host competition each weekend through late September, weather permitting.

A little further north from Winder-Barrow, another long time short track will open its gates for the first time this season over the weekend.

Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina, is scheduled to kick off 2019 on Friday, March 22.

It marks the 56th season of competition for the 3/8-mile asphalt raceway, which is a NASCAR Home Track, hosting several events for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Cars.

Along with weekly racing in local divisions, Anderson will also host the Southeast Super Trucks on four occasions (April 20, May 18, September 10 and October 5), along with resenting the 10th annual Rupert Porter Memorial Shrine Race on August 6.

The regular season for the speedway will be held on September 13 with the Night of Champions.

Another NASCAR Home Track opening its 2019 season this weekend is Tennessee’s Kingsport Speedway, which will hold its first race on Saturday, March 23.

Along with NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Cars, the 3/8-mile concrete raceway will host the Roger Neece/Tony Ward Memorial on May 10, a Racer’s Reunion on June 7, the Super Cup Stock Car Series on June 21, Fan Appreciation Night on July 5, and Championship Night on September 13.
