Connor Okrzesik held off NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch over the closing laps of Saturday’s SpeedFest 200 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia to score the victory in the ARCA/CRA Super Late Model feature.

It marked a major milestone victory for the 17-year-old Grand Bay, Alabama native, who regularly competes on the Southern Super Series tour, as he scored his first Super Late model victory.

Meanwhile, defending Southern Super Series champion Casey Roderick scored a home state victory earlier in the afternoon with a win in the 125 lap JEGS/CRA All Star Pro Late Model feature.

For Okrzesik, the battle came down to a seven lap shootout after a late spin by Tate Fogleman brought out the caution. With three-time event winner Busch and 2017 race winner Harrison Burton in pursuit, Okrzesik pulled out to almost a second lead en route to the victory.

Busch would finish second, with Burton third, defending race winner Chandler Smith from Jasper, Georgia in fourth and Stephen Nasse in fifth.

Scotty Ellis, Roderick, Brian Campbell, Chris Dilbeck and Anthony Sergi rounded out the top ten.

Earlier in the day, the 125 lap Pro Late Model feature came down to a battle between a pair of Peach State speedsters, as Lawrenceville, Georgia’s Casey Roderick held off Canton, Georgia’s Dawson Fletcher for the win.

It was the second victory in the event for Roderick, who drove Georgia Racing Hall of Famer Ronnie Sanders’ No. 18 to the win.

Fletcher came home in second, with Steve Dorer in third, Blaise Rutherford in fourth and Brandon Oakley in fifth.

Taylor Holdaway, Alex O’Bryan, Tyler Porter, Jake Garcia and Michael House rounded out the top ten.
