Hometown Hero Jackson Hale added his name to the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series record books on Saturday night with a victory in the B.J. Parker Memorial at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama.
It marked the first career series win for the Southside, Alabama native, making him the sixth different series winner of the season.
Hale took over the top spot when leader Austin Horton made contact with a lapped car, knocking him out of contention.
Hale then held off a late challenge from William Thomas, who would get to the inside of Hale, but couldn’t pull off the pass. In the end, Thomas followed Hale across the finish line by half a car length. Jason Hiett finished in third, followed by Josh Adkins in fourth and Dallas Cooper in fifth.
Tim Roszell came home in sixth, with Kenny Collins in seventh.
Jay Scott finished the night in the eight position, clinching the 2018 SAS Series championship. He becomes the 23rd different series champion in 35 years, and the second driver in history to win Rookie of the Year honors and the title in consecutive years.
Jay Scott, Tyler Hurst and Dillon Tidmore rounded out the top ten.
Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series is scheduled to wrap up the 2019 season on November 19 at South Carolina’s Lancaster Motor Speedway. For more information, visit SASDirt.com.
