The 2018 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series wrapped up over the weekend, with Vic Hill and Brandon Overton recording victories, while Casey Roberts took home the series title.

Hill took the win at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia, while Overton swept to victory lane at Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway and Tazewell Speedway.

Meanwhile, Roberts, of Toccoa, Georgia, edged out Chickamauga, Georgia’s Dale McDowell by eight points, with Overton in third, Donald McIntosh in fourth and Aaron Ridley in fifth in the final points standings.

On Tuesday, July 24, Hill narrowly beat out McDowell at the finish by .058 seconds to score his seventh career series victory at Boyd’s Speedway, and a $3,500 payday.

Hill would lead start-to-finish in the 35-lap feature at Boyd’s Speedway. He would be challenged towards the end of the race by outside polesitter Randy Weaver and challenged again by McDowell on the final lap but Hill narrowly would hold on for the win at the line over McDowell.

Weaver finished in third, followed by John Ownbey in fourth and McIntosh in fifth.

On Thursday night, Evans, Georgia’s Brandon Overton added another series win to the record books with a $3,500 victory at Crossville Speedway.

Michael Chilton would lead early, but would swap the top spot with Roberts and Overton several times. Overton took the top spot on lap 10, and would hold the position at the finish to take the win.

Roberts finished in second, followed by McDowell in third, Chilton in fourth and Craig Vosbergen in fifth.

The series was next slated to compete at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Friday night, but a heavy rain shower moved through, forcing race and track officials to cancel the event.

That set up the series finale for Saturday night at Tazewell Speedway, where Overton scored his fifth victory of the season.

The win is the tenth career series win for Overton, who pocketed a cool $10,000 payday with the victory.

Overton started eighth and marched through the field taking the lead for the first time on lap 32. He officially led twice in the feature event.

Overton bypassed Michael Chilton for the lead, but would hand it back on lap 44 when Overton had to check up in turn two. Six laps later, Overton retook the top spot, and would lead the rest of the way.

McIntosh, Chilton, Roberts and McDowell rounded out the top five.
