Brandon Sheppard and Mike Marlar both raced their way into Victory Lane with wins in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series over the past week.

Sheppard took wins on Friday night at Iowa’s Dubuque Speedway and at Minnesota’s Black Hills Speedway on Tuesday night.

Marlar split the Sheppard streak with a win on Saturday night at Minnesota’s Deer Creek Speedway.

On Friday, Sheppard rebounded from a flat right rear tire on lap nine of the 40-lap feature to collect his seventh Series win of the season.

The New Berlin, Illinois driver used every ounce of energy he had to put the Rocket1 Racing machine in Victory Lane.

“I didn’t want to have to work that hard, you know what I mean,” said Sheppard. “It was a lot of fun out there. It was really treacherous out there on the high-side but if you got up against the wall it was fairly smooth getting into the corner to get turned and get straight down the straightaways so I didn’t bounce coming off. It was just a phenomenal race. It was a lot of fun to drive. It was hard to drive but it was a lot of fun out there.”

Chris Simpson finished in second, with Jimmy Mars in third, Brian Birkhofer in fourth and Tyler Erb in fifth.

On Saturday night, Mike Marlar dominated the 39th Annual Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Speedway. Marlar set fast time, claimed his heat win and dominated the 50-lap feature en route to his third Series win of the year.

“I said this before the race, you all have a special, special racetrack with a lot of electricity here,” said Marlar. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many fans come into the pits at three o’clock today.”
Zebulon, Georgia’s Shane Clanton finished in second, with Erb in third, Sheppard in fourth and Devin Moran in fifth.

On Tuesday night, Brandon Sheppard collected his eighth series victory of the season at Black Hills Speedway.

Sheppard, sure enough, ran away with the feature race. Sheppard challenged polesitter and reining race winner Rick Eckert side-by-side for the first 19 laps of the 50-lap shootout. On lap 20, Sheppard secured the pass for the lead, and went on to the win.

“We had a really phenomenal car tonight,” said Sheppard. “It was a lot of fun to drive and the racetrack ended up being really racy. You could drive all over it… It was one heck of a race. Lapped traffic was tricky and then the track started to take a lot of rubber but all-in-all hopefully we got the bad luck shook off of our shoulders and we can string together some wins here. We have a fast car; the driver just has to get it done I guess.”

Marlar, Chris Madden, Rick Eckert and Moran rounded out the top five.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will next head to Grand Forks, North Dakota to River Cities Speedway on Friday, July 13. For more information, visit WoOLMS.com.
