Michael Chilton took the lead on lap 11 of Thursday night’s Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals season finale at Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway, and went on to take the victory.
The Salvisa, Kentucky speedster held off Jason Jameson over the closing laps to secure the $4,000 winner’s payday.
It marks Chilton’s second series win of the season, and the third of his career.
Casey Roberts would take the lead at the drop of the green flag with Jameson, Chilton, Aaron Ridley, and Eric Wells in pursuit. Chilton worked under Jameson for the runner-up and began working to close on the leader. On lap 11, Chilton would claim the top spot, and would not relinquish it the rest of the way.
With five laps to go, Jameson would mount one final charge, pulling within a car length of Chilton, but could not get any closer as Chilton went on to win.
Jameson would settle for second, with Eric Wells in third, Aaron Ridley in fourth and Zach Leonhardi in fifth.
Wells third place effort locked down his first-career Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series title, giving him $5,053 for the eight-race mini-series championship.
