Dale McDowell took the lead with 14 laps to go in Saturday night’s Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals event at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia, and went on to score the victory.

The Chickamauga, Georgia speedster powered past Tyler Millwood on lap 36, and drove away to a 4.162 second advantage at the checkered flag.

It marked McDowell’s third series victory of the season and the ninth of his career, making him the all-time series win leader. The win was also worth a $5,000 payday.

Millwood took the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Jason Croft, McDowell, Austin Horton, and Donald McIntosh giving chase.

By lap 11, McDowell began to challenge Croft for second, finally taking the spot on lap 16 when Croft slowed on the backstretch, drawing the only caution flag of the night.

Millwood would hold the lead on the restart, with McDowell in tow. The two would pace the event until lap 36, when McDowell used a high-side pass to take the lead.

From there, McDowell went on to take the win, with Millwood in second, Horton in third, McIntosh in fourth and Michael Page in fifth.

Casey Roberts, Ashton Winger, Tyler Bruening, Shane Clanton and Aaron Ridley rounded out the top ten.

In other action, local division winners included Landon Bagby Steel Head/525, Jake Knowles in Crate Late Models, Daniel Brewer in 602 Sportsman, Justin Begley in Economy Bombers, and Tony Newman in Street Stingers.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Spring Nationals were slated to race on Sunday at Georgia’s Rome Speedway, but heavy rains during the day Saturday and into the evening plus saturated grounds forced track officials to cancel the event. No suitable makeup date could be found.
