Shawn Chastain scored a $4,000 payday on Saturday night, as he drove to the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series victory at Georgia’s Blue Ridge Motorsports Park.
Shawn Chastain’s victory came after his brother and early race leader Johnny Chastain suffered a flat tire at the three-quarter mark of the 40-lap contest.
It marks the second career win for Shawn Chastain, who hails from Murphy, North Carolina.
Johnny Chastain jumped to the early race lead, with Shawn Chastain, Will Roland, Gary McPherson, and Chicky Barton giving chase. Johnny Chastain would open a comfortable advantage in the early going on to lose it when Adam Ruff spun in turn four to draw the first caution four laps in.
Johnny Chastain would hold the lead through the next two cautions. Lap 29 was the turning point of the race, when Johnny Chastain slowed with a flat right-rear tire and the tire would shred before he could exit the track, bringing out the caution flag.
Shawn Chastain took the lead on the restart, with Roland in pursuit. Shawn Chastain would lead the remaining laps of the event en route to the win, while Ray Cook passed Roland on the final circuit to finish second. Roland finished third, with Barton in fourth and David Payne in fifth.
Aaron Ridley, Jamie Oliver, Kurt English, Andy Standridge and McPherson rounded out the top ten.
The next even for the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series will be on Saturday May 12 at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia.
