Toccoa, Georgia racer Drew Benfield scored another hometown victory on Saturday night at Toccoa Raceway.

Benfield avoided a multi-car crash on the start, and went on to take the win in the FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature at the historic 5/16 mile clay speedway.

Starting on the pole, Benfield brought the field to the green flag, but David McCoy made a bold move on the inside on the start to stack the leaders three wide. He had the lead by the time the field got to turn one.

But it all went south when contact from Colby Cannon sent both cars spinning off turn two, gathering up Larry Waters and Sylvan Schuette in the melee. The shunt brought McCoy’s race to a premature end.

On the second start attempt, Benfield jumped out the lead. Behind him, it was another three-wide fight, this time for second between Cannon, Derrick Harvey and Schuette. Cannon was able to clear the fight off turn two to move to the runner-up position.

Meanwhile, up front, Benfield moved out to a 12 car length advantage over the field.

From there, it looked like he would go unchallenged en route to the victory. But that all changed when Harvey’s car slowed to a stop in turn four with just a couple of laps left to go, giving Cannon the chance to challenge for the win.

On the restart, Benfield jumped out to a six car length advantage, and drove away to the victory. Cannon held on to finish in second, with Schuette in third, Waters in fourth and Harvey in fifth.

While things didn’t go his way in the FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature, David McCoy jumped out to the early lead in the Limited Late Model feature, and went on to record the win. Drew Collins finished in second, with Wesley English in third, David Conley in fourth and Ronald Woods in fifth.

In other action, Mark Wilbanks held off Dale Timms to score the 602 Sportsman/Hobby
Feature victory. Nick Sellers finished in third, with Jason Black in fourth and Ben Riggins in fifth.

Justin Sims was the winner in the Modified Street feature, with Chris Nickerson finishing in second. Billy Buffington ran third, followed by Robert Stewart in fourth and Tim Bohannan in fifth.

Coon Ayers took the victory in the Toccoa Pro Trucks feature, followed by Jimmy Motes in second, Bill Pulliam in third, Ralph Anderson in fourth and Cameron Collett in fifth.

Harley Holden scored the win in the Stock 4 feature, with Jackie Holden in second, Randy Boshears in third and Ryan Crawford in fourth.

Hayden Collett took the victory in the Stock V8 feature, with Ray Foskey, Chase Baird, Ricky Jones and Bobby Hiller rounding out the top five.

Jackie Holden was the winner in the Front Wheel Drive feature. Daniel Reynolds finished in second, followed by Calob Nicholson in third, Robert Hunt in fourth and Kenneth Taylor in fifth.

Toccoa Raceway returns to action with a rare Sunday night race as a part of the Labor Day weekend on September 3, featuring a fireworks display later in the evening.
