It took a few extra weeks, but in the end, veteran dirt track ace Clint Smith drove to the victory in the Michael Head, Jr. Memorial for the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway.
Originally scheduled for May 20, the annual event held to honor the late son of Georgia Racing Hall of Famer Mike Head, Sr. was finally held on Saturday night at the 3/8-mile clay raceway.
Smith, who hails from Senoia, Georgia, battled with series points leader Austin Horton to score the victory. Smith took the lead once but a caution flew before the lap was completed and had to go back to second. A few laps later, Smith worked his by Horton to take the lead for good. From there, Smith went on to capture his 13th career series victory.
Smith was elated in victory lane about the win and was honored to win the race that was dedicated to the son of one of his biggest rivals on the series, Mike Head, Sr., who won the series championship in 1991.
Horton padded his series points lead by a few more markers as he came home in second. Cody King recorded his best career series finish with a third place effort, with Ivedent Lloyd in fourth and Tristan Sealy in fifth.
Eric Hickerson, Riley Hickman, Michael Page, Landon Bagby, and Dillon Tidmore rounded out the top en..
