Nicholson Notches Lucas Oil Midgets Victory At Toccoa

The Lucas Oil Southern States Midget Series wrote a fresh page of history at Georgia’s Toccoa Raceway Saturday night, as the series made its first appearance at the 62-year old speedway.

John Riley Nicholson powered to the victory, leading flag-to-flag en route to the win.

The win didn’t come easily, as Kyle Craker challenged Nicholson for the win. Craker drove from the back of the field to battle with Nicholson over the second half of the event. In the end, it was Nicholson edging out the win by half a car length.

Mike Ward finished in third, with Frank Beck, who came back from a flip in turn four during the heat races earlier in the evening, in fourth and Terry Becker in fifth.

In other action, Adam Smith took the win in the FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature, with Colby Cannon in second, Drew Benfield in third, Tyler Harvey in fourth and Derrick Harvey in fifth.

Gus Simpson was the winner in the Limited Late Model feature. Wesley English came home in second, followed by Darryl Matheson in third, David Conley in fourth and Jimmy Ivester in fifth.

Ben Riggins took the victory in the 602 Sportsman/Hobby feature, with Mitchell Godfrey in second, Nick Sellers in third, Jacob Anderson in fourth and Mark Wilbanks in fifth.

Robbie Campbell took top honors in the Modified Street feature, with Jennifer Everett crossing the finish line in second. Louis Tetreault finished third, followed by Jason Lewallen in fourth and Travis Terry in fifth.

Terry Calhoun scored the win in the Toccoa Pro Truck feature. Cameron Collett finished second, with Coon Ayers third and Bill Pulliam fourth.

Harley Holden was first across the finish line for the Stock 4 win. Jackie Holden, Bobby Rhinehart, Randy Boshears and Ryan Crawford rounded out the top five.

In the Stock V8 feature, Hayden Collett edged out Jason Pipes for the win. Ricky Jones finished third, followed by Ray Foskey in fourth and Shannon Duck in fifth.

Robert Hunt was the winner in the Front Wheel Drive feature, while J.J. Garrett was the victor in the Super 4 Cylinder feature.

Toccoa Raceway returns to action on Saturday, May 20 for Armed Forces Night, featuring action from the Limited Late Model, FASTRAK Pro Late Model, Pro Truck, 602 Sportsman, Modified Street, Super 4 Cylinder, Stock 4 Cylinder, Stock 8 and Front Wheel Drive divisions.
