Despite bitterly cold weather, fans filled the stands at 411 Motor Speedway Saturday to see Ray Cook close out 2016 with a victory in the seventh annual running of the Hangover dirt Super Late Model event at the Seymour, Tennessee raceway.

Dawsonville, Georgia’s Donald McIntosh came into the Hangover having won the previous two season’s races. He picked up where he left off, setting fast time in qualifying.

McIntosh jumped to the lead on the start with Justin Williams and Mike Marlar giving chase. While he pulled out to a big lead, Marlar and Williams battled for second, with Marlar winning out to take the spot.

As the laps wound on, Cook had his car hooked up, quickly moving through traffic. By lap 15, he had moved to second and had caught McIntosh. One lap later, Cook used the high line to power around McIntosh and into the lead.

McIntosh’s problems were far from over, however, as the two-time Hangover winner slowed on the track with an issue, drawing the caution flag.

On the restart, Marlar tried to challenge Cook for the lead, but had to fall into line. Behind the leaders, Jason Cardwell and Jason Welshan battled for third, with Cardwell securing the spot.

Up front, Ray Cook showed the way to the checkered flag, scoring the win and the $4,000 pay day.

Marlar finished in second, with Cardwell third, Welshan fourth and Russell Erwin in fifth.

Stephen Breeding, Ryan King, Justin Williams, James Williamson and Dustin Mitchell rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Adam Mitchell jumped out to an early lead in the Sportsman feature, and went on to score the victory. Zach Shannon finished in second, with Josh Sneed in third, Heath Alvey in fourth and Bryan Cooper in fifth.

Josh Sliter took the lead on lap 11 of the Mod Lite feature from Ed Griggs, then held off challenges from Cody Sisson and Ronnie Choate to take the $1,000 win. Mike Walling finished in fourth, followed by Ed Griggs in fifth.

Tyler Bare started the Crate Late Model feature on the pole, but it would be Anthony White who took the lead on the start. After a second lap caution slowed the action, White and Bare would swap the lead twice before Bare eventually took the spot. From there, Bare pulled away to pick up the win, with Jimmy Elliott, Jason Welshan, White and Jason Manley rounding out the top five.

Austin Neely took command of the Street Stock feature from the drop of the green flag and pulled away to score the victory. Rocky Ogle finished second, with Duke Lowe third, Westley Lester fourth and Shannon Emery fifth.

The fight for the win in the Open Wheel feature came down to a drag race between K.C. Burdette and Jimmy Owens. Burdette had led the early laps before Owens was able to take the lead on lap 14. As the laps wound down, Burdette began working the high line, and was able to close the gap on the leader.

On the final lap, Burdette was able to get a run coming off the final turn, setting up a side-by-side sprint to the finish line. Burdette nosed out Owens by inches to take the victory. Sean Flanary finished third, followed by Aaron Branham in fourth and Brad Hall in fifth.

411 Motor Speedway will open the 2017 racing season on March 18, as the raceway plays host to the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series, with racing also scheduled in other classes.
