Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia celebrated its 50th anniversary on Sunday night, and Derek Ellis found the best way to be a part of the celebration.
That’s by scoring a victory in the Super Late Model feature on the night.
The Chatsworth, Georgia speedster held off veteran wheelman Clint Smith to take home the winner’s trophy on a night that saw an estimated 150 cars through all divisions show up at the famed Northwest Georgia half-mile clay raceway.
Jason Hiett finished in third, with Austin Horton in fourth and Tom Maddox in fifth.
Tyler Millwood, Frank Ingram, Tod Hernandez, Dale Thurman and Jason Croft rounded out the top ten.
In other action, Matt Black edged out Andy Morris for the Steel Head Late Model feature victory. Casey Thurman finished in third, with Rucker Orr in fourth and Mike Bruner in fifth.
Hunter Jones scored the win in the Crate Late Model feature, with Will Roland in second, T.J. Brittain in third, Ahnna Parkhurst in fourth and Corey Peyton in fifth.
Travis Smith was the winner in the Super Bomber feature. Randall Powell crossed the finish line in second, Petey Cochran in third, Andrew Bailey in fourth and Matt Thompson in fifth.
Eric Hamby took the victory in the Economy Bombers feature, with Dalton Polston, Taylor Cole, Andrew Moody and Seth Lacey rounding out the top five.
Charlie Ivey scored the Street Stingers feature win, with Kenny Clark in second, Cody Sisson in third, Casey Creighton in fourth and Kevin Gurley in fifth.
Rome Speedway returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 2 for the track’s season finale, featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with $10,000 on the line for the winner.
