John Ownbey used his outside front row starting position to jump out to an early lead, and he turned that into the victory in Saturday’s Chevy Performance Series feature at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia.

Williams Thomas set fast time with a 15.057 lap around the historic raceway to secure the pole starting position. Thomas and Ownbey led the field to green, with Ownbey using the outside lane to inch out ahead of Thomas as the field entered turn 1.

While Ownbey was able to get to the lead, fierce competition went on between Jake Knowles, Thomas, Ronnie Johnson, and a host of other drivers. Knowles would move into the second spot and began working to reel in Ownbey.

As Ownbey approached the tail end of the field, Knowles was able to get to within a half car length of his back bumper. Both drivers worked their way through traffic, but saw their battle suspended temporarily when a spin by Ryan King in turn 2 brought out the caution on lap 19.

On the restart, Ownbey found himself under fire from Thomas, but was able to hold him at bay. From there, he went on to score the victory, with William Thomas in second, Michael Page in third, Knowles in fourth and Brandon Williams in fifth.

Jason Smith, Johnson, Oliver Gentry, Jadon Frame and Clifton Moran rounded out the top ten.
