Dale Thurman took the Super Late Model win Saturday night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, but it didn’t come easy.

The Cartersville, Georgia driver had had his hands full almost the entire distance either from Jason Croft or lapped traffic. Croft was either right behind, or side by side with Thurman as both worked their around lapped cars. Croft managed to lead an occasional lap only to lose the spot the next lap.

The battle came to a head as Croft made an attempt to pass Thurman when the two made contact, sending Croft spinning. He would have to make the restart from the rear of the field.

From there, Thurman drove unchallenged to his first win of the season. Shawn Chastain finished in second, with Johnny Chastain in third, Jake Knowles in fourth and Justin Shipley in fifth.

In other action, Michael Page, driving the car normally driven by Chris Sizemore, took the lead and went wire to wire for the Steel Head Late Model win. The race for second was the one to watch as Oliver Gentry and Jason Smith drove side-by-side, swapping positions through the event. Gentry managed to pull ahead by half a car length at the finish line with Smith in third. Austin Smith finished in fourth, with Scottie Pritchett in fifth.

Tom Maddox made it two wins in a row in the Crate Late Model feature, as he went flag-to-flag for the victory. Will Roland finished second, with Hunter Jones third, Logan Palmer in fourth and Jimmy Thomas in fifth.

The Super Bomber feature started with a bang, as the cars of Daniel Brewer, Donnie Thurman and Cass Fowler raced three wide for the lead on lap one. Brewer came away with the lead, followed by Fowler. As Thurman faded over the course of the feature, Alan Brewer made his presence known, keeping it a three car race.

With the leaders fighting for the top spot, Alan Brewer closed. He would make his way to the lead and move away for his third win of the season. Daniel Brewer finished in second, followed by Fowler in third, Randall Powell in fourth and Thurman in fifth.

Joe Trantham took the lead in the Economy Bomber feature at the green flag and looked to be heading to his first win. But it all went away when his car began to develop a push coming out of the turns. That finally sent him into the wall and out of contention.

That moved Landon Bagby to the lead, and he went on to score his second win of the season. Eric Hamby, Dalton Polston, Andrew Moody and Taylor Cole rounded out the top five.

The Street Stinger division held its Championship race, with Cody Sisson coming from deep in the pack to take the victory. Brian Dempsey finished in second, with Shawn Harper in third, Charlie Ivey in fourth and Brian Cosier in fifth.

Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, May 28, as the raceway plays host to the Spring Nationals Series for a $4,000 to win Super Late Model event. On Sunday, May 29, the series moves to Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia for a $6,000 to win race.
