Saturday night was Jason Croft’s night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, as the hometown driver led wire-to-wire to score the Super Late Model victory.

Croft brought the field to green from the pole after setting fast time in qualifying and spinning a zero on the invert. Only two cautions slowed the action as Croft took a healthy lead, leaving Shawn Chastain and Ray Cook to battle for the second spot.

Cook took over second for good a third of the way into the feature and began to gain ground on the leader. But there was no catching Croft, as he picked up his second win in as many weeks.

Cook settled for second, with Dale Thurman in third, Chastain in fourth and John Ownbey in fifth.

It had been over five years since Jason Smith last visited victory lane at Dixie Speedway, but it all came together for him in the Steel Head Late Model feature, as he led Andy Morris to the line for the win. Bobby Tucker finished in third, with Scott Hall in fourth and Ryan West in fifth.

After several restarts, Tom Maddox took the lead of the Crate Late Model feature and led the entire distance, even avoiding the same lapped car several times, to take his first win of the season. Shane Smith followed in second after having to race his way from the rear after spinning early in the race. Matt Black followed in third trailed by Logan Palmer in fourth and Justin Begley in fifth.

Alan Brewer held off a very strong Jerry Fowler to take the Super Bomber feature. Daniel Brewer trailed in third followed by Donnie Thurman in fourth, while pole sitter Randall Powell faded back to fifth.

Saturday night was the first Championship race of the season for the Economy Bombers. Eric Hamby took the initial lead until mechanical failure knocked him out of the race, leaving James Gagnon out front.

It looked like clear sailing for Gagnon until he suddenly had Dan Meadows closed on him, and began looking every which way to pass for the lead. Meadows made the move on lap 11, taking the top spot and going on for the win and extra money. Gagnon settled for second with Dalton Polston, Kyle Beavers, and Taylor Cole rounding out the top five.

As with many new divisions at racetracks across the country, drivers will push the envelope to see how far they can go with a tech inspector. This was the case in the new Street Stinger class, as Brian Dempsey grabbed his first win of the season after the top two finishers were disqualified. Cody Sisson moved up to second, with Shane Gooden third, Nick May fourth and Brian Cosier fifth.

Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, May 21 with a full racing program plus the $400 Street Stinger Championship race.
