If you believe in numbers, there was no other possible outcome than Colby Howard getting his first feature win in the 75-lap Limited Late Model feature at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC Saturday night.

It was April 16, 2016 and the speedway’s pit pass wristbands had the number 16 on them, matching the No. 16 on the side of Howard’s race car.

Howard took the numbers with him all the way to victory lane, winning by nearly 13 seconds over his closest challenger.

The 14-year-old third generation rookie led from start to finish in a caution free event and took home a popular victory over Taylor Sorrow and Luke Sorrow.

Howard and Taylor Sorrow made up the front row for the 75-lap Limited Late Model feature. Howard took the lead and opened up an advantage of over two seconds over the rest of the field in the first 12 laps.

With the race going caution free, Howard drove away to score the victory. Taylor Sorrow finished second, with Luke Sorrow third, Tasha Kummer fourth and Phillip Peters in fifth.

“The car was getting tight at the end,” Howard said. “I just kept seeing more lapped cars and I got scared because I was afraid Luke or whoever was behind me was going to catch me. This is just awesome.”

Dannon Esco jumped out to the early lead in the Four Cylinder feature, with Michael Cross and Chad Redding giving chase. Redding got by Cross for the runner-up spot on lap six, but the two tangled, sending Redding around. Both cars were sent to the rear of the field for the restart.

Esco retained the lead, and went on to score the victory with Michael Webster finishing second, Redding recovering to finish third, Hunter Evans fourth and Don Tavernia in fifth.

Chris Meinders and Ashley Granata led the field to the green flag for the 12-lap Pure Stock feature. Meinders took the early advantage and held it until lap three when the Tyler Woodring went up in a huge cloud of smoke between turns three and four, bringing out the first yellow of the race.

Back under green, Granta caught Chris Meinders with just a few laps left. The pair made contact in turns one and two before Granata squeezed by and into the lead. She went on to score her first victory at the speedway. Charlie Meinders finished in second, with Chris Meinders third, Buck Simmons fourth and Freddie Hale in fifth.

Ricky Stephens scored the win in the Super Stock feature. Tim Sams, Stanley Pressley, Danny Gilbert and T.J. Johnson rounded out the top five..

Eddie Ray held off Terry Thurston for the Renegade feature win. Spenser Darnell ran third, with Bobby Emory fourth and Billy Brown fifth.

Greenville-Pickens Speedway returns to action on Saturday night, with the Southeast Limited Late Model Series and the Southeast Super Truck Series heading the bill, along with the Renegade and Four Cylinder divisions.
