Chase Purdy and Trey Gibson each won for the third time this season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Friday night, as they split the twin Late Model Stock 75-lap features at the historic Easley, SC raceway.

Eighteen cars started the first Late Model Stock feature. Cody Haskins and Chase Purdy brought the field to green from the front row. Haskins grabbed the top spot and started to pull away early as Purdy and Gibson swapped second back and forth before Purdy firmly took the spot.

The first caution of the race flew on lap 42 when Kenneth Headen rolled to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Haskins, Purdy and Gibson led the field, but the race was slowed again by caution a few laps later when Tasha Kummer and Josh Dyer tangled in turn three.

Haskins took off on the restart but Gibson was in pursuit. He dogged the back of the Haskins’ machine for seven laps until R.A. Brown brought out the third caution of the event on lap 49.

Back under green, Haskins retook the lead, with Purdy moving to second. With ten laps to go, Purdy caught the leader. The two made contact, with Purdy moving to the top spot on lap 67. From there, Purdy drove away to score the victory.

Haskins finished in second, with Gibson in third, Dylan Hall in fourth and David Roberts in fifth.

Trouble almost broke out on the start of the second Late Model feature, as Mitchell Mote developed a flat tire at the drop of the green. Fortunately, the other drivers were able to him and he limped into the pits under the ensuring yellow flag.

Rodney Howard and Haskins led the field to the start as Mote rejoined at the rear. Haskins led the first three laps until Gibson moved low and made the pass for the lead. At the same time, Roberts stopped on the track, bringing out the caution.

A spin by Dylan Hall in turn two after the restart brought out another caution, as the field completed just four laps.

Back under green, Gibson moved up to a sizable advantage, as Haskins, Purdy and Anthony Alfredo settled into the top four spots.

Gibson ended up with a dominant five second win over Purdy. Hall, Alfredo and Haskins rounded out the top five.

“It felt really good right there,” Gibson said. “We missed the stagger a bit in the first race but we got it right for the second. This is awesome.”

In other action, Ricky Brunett scored the win in the 20-lap Renegade feature, with Shane Hill in second, Bobby Emory in third, Terry Thurston in fourth and Parker Jameson in fifth.

Buck Simmons scored the win in the Pure Stock feature, with Charlie Meaders finishing second, Spencer Morgan third, A.J. Davis fourth and Chris Meinders fifth.

Tommy Davis took the victory in the Four Cylinder feature, with Chad Redding, Don Tavernia, Michael Cross and Dannon Esco rounding out the top five.

In the Super Stock feature, Tim Sams led flag to flag to score the victory, with Mike Mote in second, Stanley Pressley in third and Dale Stancill in fifth.

Greenville-Pickens Speedway returns to action on Saturday, April 16, featuring a 75-lap Limited Late Model feature, along with racing from the Renegade, Pure Stock, Four Cylinder and Super Stock divisions.
