Augie Grill moved to the lead on lap 112 of the 125 lap Show Me The Money Series Pro Late Model feature Sunday at Montgomery Motor Speedway, and drove to the victory at the Montgomery, AL raceway.

The Hayden, Alabama speedster was fast qualifier for the event, but would start eighth after the redraw, with Justin South moving to the pole for the feature.

South moved to the front on the drop of the green flag, and would hold the lead for the first 33 laps. On lap 34, Lawrenceville, GA’s Casey Roderick moved to the point. He would stay there until lap 42, when Grill moved around Roderick to take the lead.

While Grill held the top spot, Roderick stayed on his bumper, and would retake the lead.

On lap 112, Grill made the final pass for the lead, and went on to take the victory.

Roderick finished in second, with Perry Patino in third, Bret Holmes in fourth and South in fifth.

Flowery Branch, GA’s Dalton Grindle finished in sixth followed by Cole Daffron in seventh, Bobby Knox in eighth, Gainsville, GA’s Fredrick Moore in ninth and Bill Bethea III rounding out the top 10.

In other action, Jason Morman had the perfect plan to drive in to victory lane in the Modifieds of Mayhem feature until he looked to his left and saw Jeff Letson streaking to the inside in turn three.

Morman and Letson split then-race leader Okie Mason on an early race restart, bringing the fans in the grandstands to their feet and allowing Letson to sneak by to grab the lead. Letson would go on to lead the rest of the event, staking his claim as the open-wheel king of Montgomery.

“The 33 (Morman) went to the outside on that restart and the 10 (Mason) was struggling off of turn two,” Letson said. “The bottom opened up and I drove it down there. They got together a little and I shot out in front.”

Morman thought he was in the catbird seat, as he was getting good bite on the outside lane. That all changed when a black blur appeared in his peripheral vision.

“On that three-wide move, I look out the side and saw the hood of his car and his front tires and thought ‘Oh, hell. I better go in there a little bit wider,” Morman said. “I tried to run him down and stay on his bumper the rest of the day to frustrate him, but he is just about as good as it gets.”

Following the three-wide move, Letson paced the field for the remainder of the event. Morman stalked his rear deck the rest of the race, but never could get close enough to make a move.

“My car got a little free towards the end, but was able to hold him off,” Letson said. “He raced me clean, and I really appreciate that.”

Billy Melvin finished in third, with Rocky Rogers in fourth and Mason in fifth.

Rusty Alverson scored the win in the Modified Minis feature, with Joel Collier in second, Steve Looney in third and David Davis in fourth.

Charles Davis was the winner in the Street Stock feature. Brian Hutchinson finished second, followed by Bubba Nesbit in third and Josh Wilson in fourth.

Racing continues as Montgomery Motor Speedway on Sunday, April 3, headlined by the King of the Wing Sprint Cars. Also in action will be the Interstate batteries Late Model Sportsman, Street Stocks and Modified Minis.
