U.S. Legends and Bandolero cars took to the quarter-mile Thunder Ring at Atlanta Motor Speedway for week 4 of the 2015-16 Winter Flurry season Saturday afternoon, as the second half of the six-week series began.

The Young Lions Division feature led off the afternoon’s racing with an eight-car lineup. Pole sitter Joshua Hicks took the green flag and built an early lead ahead of Nicholas Waters, who was running in second-place, before a caution on lap 9 bunched the field once again. But Hicks wasn’t fazed and led each of the final 21 laps for his first victory of the season. Corey Heim finished second, and Waters ended up with a third place finish.

The combined Pro/Semi-Po Division feature had a little bit of everything, most notably a fierce back-and-forth battle between William Plemons III and Jensen Jorgensen. Plemons took the pole and kept the lead through the first two laps despite an early restart, but Jorgensen, shadowing Plemons’ every move, made a pass to take the lead in turn 4 on the third lap and led each of the next five.

A determined Plemons retook the lead on the ninth lap with an impressive burst of speed coming out of turn 3, but Jorgensen again retook the lead on the very next lap, and he led for another nine, with Plemons still hot on his heels.

The pair raced door-to-door down the stretch, with Plemons taking the lead and staying ahead for four more laps until trouble struck entering turn 3 on the 20th lap.

Contact between the two forced them out of the race early and collected Dylan Murry in the process, who had been running close behind in third, patiently awaiting an opening.

On the ensuing restart, Jason Treschl found himself in the lead and made it count, holding off the field for each of the final four laps to claim the victory. It was Treschl’s first victory this season. Murry recovered to finish second, while Amber Fleeman took third-place, matching her best finish of the year. David Lawrence and Cameron Whitener finished fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Masters Division, Robbie Woodall took the pole and led the first 19 laps with Bill Plemons, Jr. running close behind in second all the way. Just before crossing the start-finish line with five laps to go, Plemons and Woodall made contact with each other and then the outside wall, forcing them both out of the race.

Tim Brockhouse, a first-time racer at Atlanta Motor Speedway from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who had been running in a close third, then took the lead on the restart and polished off the win, leading the final five laps in his debut Winter Flurry race.

Clay Thompson took the pole in the Bandits Division feature and led every lap of the 25-lap race, keeping a comfortable distance ahead of second-place finisher, Michael Gannon, despite several restarts. It was his first victory of the season. Connor Younginer, Blaise Maddox and Blaze Crawford rounded out the top five.

A strong Outlaws Division race for Daniel Wilk saw him lead every lap from flag to flag in his first Winter Flurry race of the season. Wilk steadily built a commanding lead ahead of the field and cruised to victory in a caution-free race. Ricky Springer finished second, Connor Younginer finished third, with Blase Maddox in fourth and Blaze Crawford in fifth.

The Winter Flurry series continues with week 5 on Saturday, March 26. For more information, visit AtlantaMotorSpeedway.com.
