In 2013, Daniel Hemric said if he had just had a few more laps, he felt he could have turned his second place finish in the All American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, TN into a win.

On Sunday afternoon, he got his chance.

Hemric took the lead with 72 laps to go, and held off Senoia, GA speedster Bubba Pollard over the closing laps to score his first All American victory. The win gave him a $12,500 payday, along with one of the most coveted pieces of hardware in all of short track racing, a Nashville Guitar trophy.

It marked the second win of the year for the Kannapolis, NC driver in the Music City, as he scored the Southern Super Series victory at the high banked, .596-mile speedway back in April.

Willie Allen brought the field of 36 Pro Late Models to the green flag, with outside front row starter David Garbo, Jr. taking the lead. Cole Williams would follow Garbo, Jr. to move into second, with Allen settling into third. Two laps later, Williams made the move around Garbo, Jr. to take the top spot.

The first caution of the day flew on lap 12 when Bennie Hamlett backed into the outside wall in turn two. On the restart, Williams would move back to the lead, with Cole Rouse and John Hunter Nemechek in tow. Nemechek, the defending winner of the event, turned up the wick, as he moved around Rouse and then charged past Williams to take the lead. One lap later, Rouse would show his muscle, as he moved around Nemechek and moved away in the lead.

Meanwhile, Pollard was beginning to move forward from his 12th place starting spot. By lap 30, he had moved up into the eighth position. Hemric had also made some headway from his 10th starting spot, moving to the seventh position. The caution flew for the second time on lap 33, when Dominique Van Weiringen crashed in turn three.

On the restart, Nemechek would get the advantage, taking the lead after a brief battle with Rouse. The caution flew again on lap 46 when Stacey Crain and Derek Scott tangled in turn one. Nemechek would regain the top spot on the restart, but Rouse would rally and take the lead one lap later. Further back, Pollard would break into the top five for the first time on lap 67, as he moved around Bret Holmes to take fifth place.

Rouse would put the field through its paces until lap 109, when Jeffrey Belt spun off turn two off the front bumper of the leader in lapped traffic. Rouse would draw the black flag for the contact, as race control sent him to the rear of the field. That moved Chad Finley to the top spot, with Nemechek second, Williams third, Pollard fourth and Bret Holmes in fifth. Finley would hold the lead on the restart, and held the position until the competition caution on lap 125. As the caution came out, Justin South crashed into the inside wall in turn one. He was okay, but his race was over.

As the race was set to resume, Nemechek made contact with Finley, sending Nemechek back to the pits. That opened the door for Williams to take the lead on the restart. One lap later, Dillon Oliver spun in turn three, bringing out the caution.

On the restart, Williams and Finley would fight for the lead, with Finley taking the position. Meanwhile, Pollard would continue his move forward, and on lap 138, began pressuring Finley for the runner-up spot. Further back, Rouse was making up time from his penalty. By lap 141, he had moved back into the top five.

A spin by Derek Scott and Dustin Smith would draw the caution, slowing the race again on lap 146. Back under green, Williams would move back to the lead ahead of Finley, while Rouse powered around Pollard to take third. Moments later, Rouse would move around Finley for second. Six laps later, Rouse would begin working on the leader, looking for daylight, while Pollard moved to third behind the lead duo. One lap later, Rouse would retake the top spot over Williams.

A big dust-up on the backstretch between Jasper, GA’s Chandler Smith and Quinnton Bear brought out the caution on lap 209. On the restart, Rouse spun his tires, allowing Williams and Pollard to stack up three wide for the lead on the backstretch. Cooler heads prevailed, and Williams would take the lead. In the ensuing scrum, Hemric moved into the fight, moving to second ahead of Rouse.

The caution flew again on lap 220, when several cars were gathered up in turn three. On the restart, Hemric would move to the lead for the first time on the day, with Williams and Pollard giving chase.

The action was stopped on lap 235, when Willie Allen made hard contact with the turn one wall, bringing out the red flag. Allen was uninjured, but his day was through.

When the race resumed, it was again Hemric pacing the field, as Pollard moved past Williams for second. The top three would stay that way until the second competition caution on lap 250.

On the restart, Hemric continued to lead the race, with Pollard in pursuit. Over the final laps, Pollard would try several times to reel in the leader, but to no avail, as Hemric drove away to the victory. Pollard finished in second, with Nemechek rallying for third, Finley in fourth and Rouse in fifth.

Holmes, Dawsonville, GA’s Spencer Davis, Austin Brawley, Matt Wallace and Garbo, Jr. rounded out the top ten.

Rouse led the most laps on the day, with 145. Hemric paced the field for 72 laps, with Williams leading 61, Finley 14, Nemechek 6 and Garbo, Jr. 2.
