Roberts Takes Late Model Win, Clinches Title At GPS

David Roberts not only scored the Late Model Stock victory at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easely, SC, but also clinched his second division championship.

Roberts started the 50-lap feature on the outside of the front row, and powered into the lead on the opening lap.

From there, Roberts would lead the feature from start to finish, holding onto the top spot through a number of caution flags and restarts.

Dylan Hall finished in second, with Trey Gibson in third, Cody Haskins in fourth and Chad McCumbee in fifth.

For Roberts, it marks his second Late Model Stock championship, with his first coming in 2007.

“I need to thank Lee McCall, because he helped give us a true hot rod tonight,” Roberts said. “We had a tough car and it handled like a dream.”

Rodney Howard, Ryan Walker, Luke Sorrow, Ralph Carnes and Kason Plott rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Steve Guthrie started the Renegade feature from the back of the 13 car field. By the time the field made it to turn one on the first lap, Guthrie charged his way to seventh. A few laps later, he was in second, trailing leader Bobby Emory. Guthrie chased down the leader, and would move to the lead. From there, he held the top spot the rest of the way to take the victory.

“I didn’t feel any pressure,” Guthrie said after the win. I got a good start at working through the field on the first lap and just kept moving forward.”

Emory finished in second, with Brad Burns in third, Blake Gregory in fourth and Larry Nabors in fifth.

Johnny Cordell worked his way to second place in the Pure Street Stock feature. On the last lap, Cordell nudged Jimbo Mann out of the groove, moving to the lead and going on for the win. Mann finished in second, with Mann, Jason McGrew, Jamie McCall and Freddy Hale, Jr. rounding out the top five.

Travis Shelton’s took the victory in the 4 Cylinder feature, scoring his fourth win in the last five races. Chris Harvell finished in second, with Casey Burkett in third, Chad Tavernia in fourth and Derek Fowler in fifth.

Josh Sams had complete control of the Super Renegade feature from start to finish. Phillip Peters came home in second, with James Johnson third, Danny Gilbert fourth and T.J. Johnson fifth.
