Dylan Hall had to survive a late race battle with Bob Root, as the two made contact several times over the final two laps, to score his first Late Model Stock victory Saturday night at Greenville Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC.

Root seemed determined to get the win early on, as he drove to the front of the pack over the opening 20 laps of the 100 lap feature. By the time the race reached lap 75, he had built up a full straightaway lead over the second place car.

The caution flew on lap 77 for fluid on the track after Rodney Howard took his car to the pits. That tightened up the field, and set up an intense battle between the leader and Hall.

With two laps to go, the duo made contact, with both drivers working to hold on to control of their cars. A bump from Hall moved Root out of the way in the first turn, allowing Hall to take the lead. Root tried to return the favor, but Hall was able to hold him off to score the victory.

“This is my very first victory,” Hall said. “I’ve run good all year, but had things happen. Lee McCall gave me an awesome race car and I need to thank him along with all my family and crew for the work they have done.”

Root held on for second, with David Roberts in third, Trey Gibson in fourth and Brandon Fox in fifth.

Kyle Plott, Emilee Riley, Rodney Howard, Blair Addis and Tasha Kummer rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Bobby Emory scored the win in the Renegade feature. Shane Hall finished in second, with Brad Burns in third, Blake Gregory in fourth and Matt Hale in fifth.

Chris Meinders jumped out front early and won running away in the Pure Street Stock division, with Jason McGrew taking second, Jimbo Mann third, Spencer Darnell fourth and Freddy Hale, Jr. in fifth.

In the 4-cylinder Front-Wheel Drive feature, Jack Hooper took the win with Danny Esco in second. Scott Parker was third, as Michel Cross and Don Tavernia finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Super Renegade race was one of the most exciting of the evening. Unfortunately, the car that took the checkered flag failed to pass technical inspection. That put

Ricky Stephens inherited the Super Renegade feature victory after the apparent winner failed post-race technical inspection. That moved Tim Same to second, Josh Sams to third and Stanley Pressley to fourth. Joe Wilder was credited with fifth.

Action returns to Greenville Pickens Speedway on Saturday, May 9, with action from the Late Model Stocks, along with the other regular divisions. For more info, visit GreenvillePickens.com.
