Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS remains on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, and after a Week 5 win on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, he has served notice that he has no plans of giving up the top spot any time soon.

After driving the Strength Center Special to his fourth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway, Arnold now has a 48-point lead over Cliff Williams of Star, MS. Arnold has accumulated 240 points with four wins, five top five finishes and six top ten finishes in six races.

Williams drove the Cliff Williams Plumbing GRT to a third-place showing Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to accumulate 192 points after one win, three top five finishes and four top ten finishes in five races. Williams has a one-point advantage over the third-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS.

After five NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races, Lee has 191 points after one win and five top five finishes in the Billy Riels Racing Special. Lee finished fourth on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 182 points after one win, two top five finishes and three top ten finishes in four races driving the Billy Riels Racing Special. Daspit had a 12th-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.

Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL has the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 173 points after one top five finish and two top ten finishes in five races driving the High Roller Race Cars Special. McRee finished 22nd on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS and Dustin Boykin of Wiggins, MS are tied for the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 172 points apiece. Thrash finished 25th on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in the McDevitt Enterprises GRT and now has one top five finish in four races.

Boykin drove the Boykin Racing Trak-Star to a 15th-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway and now has two top five finishes and four top ten finishes in five NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Collinsville, MS climbed back into the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings after a second-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in the Byram’s Trucking GRT. Keeton is eighth in the standings with 143 points after three top five finishes and four top ten finishes in four races.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 action and dropped to ninth in the standings with 142 points after one win, two top five finishes and three top ten finishes in three races driving the Skinner’s Body Shop CVR. The 13-year-old driver still leads the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series point standings for drivers 18 years of age and younger.

Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 139 points after one win and two top five finishes in three races driving the Three Trade Consultants Special. Joiner did not compete in Week 5 action.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 action, Joey Couvillion of Pineville, LA drove the Advanced Onsite Services GRT to a $1,000 victory on Saturday night in a Southern Crate Late Model Series Co-Sanctioned race at 171 Speedway in Leesville, LA.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS collected the $1,000 top prize on Saturday night with a win in the Spring Championships at Whynot Motorsports Park driving the Checkerboard Restaurant Trak-Star. Dana Eiland of Salem, AL took the win on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL in the Andy’s Auto Parts Special.

Mother Nature was still around to wreak a little bit of havoc on NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 action at rainouts were the case at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS on Friday night, and Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Saturday night race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL was cancelled after the death on Friday of track Co-Owner/Promoter Alfred Gurley.

After the first five weeks of the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 2015 season, there is a three-way tie for the lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge point standings.

The defending Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL, three-time Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR, and Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV share the Chassis point lead at two wins apiece. CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN is fourth with one win, while Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.
