After being delayed due to wet weather, Mobile International Speedway’s local divisions finally got the chance to race for the jukebox trophies from the March 13 ARCA Mobile weekend on Saturday night at the Irvington, AL raceway.

Steve Buttrick wrote a little history, as he became the first local driver to win two of the jukebox trophies, along with a $1,000 payday with a win in the 50-lap Bob’s Speedshop Sportsman feature.

With three wide racing at the drop of the green flag, Johnny Green shot to the lead as a frantic battled for second raged on between Brannon Fowler and Lee Reynolds.

Fowler soon gained the advantage over Reynolds and set his sights on the leader. He made quick work of Green with a big run off turn 2, and proceeded to stretch his lead to a straightaway advantage. That lead would go away with a lap 33 caution.

On the restart, Fowler retook the lead while a fight for second was waged behind him, with Buttrick finally taking the position.

By lap 37, Buttrick reeled in Fowler for the lead, and that’s when things got interesting. With a strong run down the backstretch, Buttrick made the move to the inside into turn 3. The pair banged fenders with Buttrick’s left side wheels in the grass as he made the pass for the lead.

Multiple cautions setup a two lap shootout for the win. On the final restart, Buttrick held the lead with Fowler in pursuit. Fowler could get close, but could not make the move, as Buttrick scored the victory.

Fowler held on for second, with Greene in third, Michael Ledlow in fourth and Reynolds in fifth.

In other action, Jake Moore would open the night and win the first jukebox with a win in the Barry’s U Pull It Pro Trucks.

A 12 truck invert made for a wild start, with reigning division champion Okie Mason taking the early lead. It took 10 laps for Moore to track down the veteran. The duo raced nose to tail and side by side until Moore wrestled the lead from Mason.

Just when Moore thought he had the win in hand, a late caution would stack the field back up again for a two-lap shootout. Caution or not, Moore wouldn’t be denied on the restart, as he took home the victory.

Jay Jay Day finished in second, with Howard Langham in third, Eric Courville in fourth and Mason in fifth.

One season ago, it was all about B.J. Leytham in the Island Motors II Bombers, winning all but one of the division’s races at MIS. The Mobile native’s quest to continue his dominance took a wrong turn during Friday evening’s opening practice as a mechanical failure left him without a ride for Saturday. A last-minute seat swap with his teammate, Geno Denmark gave the champion a shot at the jukebox.

Matt Jackson set a new track record for the Bomber division by recording a lap of 22.580 seconds. A full-field invert relegated the new record holder to the rear of the field for the start of the 25-lap race.

After the invert, Michael Nelson started on the pole, but quickly found himself in second after Derek “Kane” Long took the lead on the first lap. Long’s time out front would be short-lived, as Jackson passed his teammate for the top spot and never looked back to score the win.

Long, Leytham, Brad Mosley and Tommie Blocker rounded out the top five.

Up next is the official start of the 2015 season at Mobile International Speedway, slated for Saturday night, with the Modifieds of Mayhem tour on tap, as well as the Sportsmen, Super Stock and Bomber divisions.
