NASHVILLE, TN – John Hunter Nemechek dominated the 30th All American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, TN Saturday. After leading the most laps, a total of 294, from the pole position, the second generation driver picked up his ever win in the music city classic. Willie Allen finished second followed by Chuck Barnes, Jr.

After the first 23 laps of the race was run incident free, the first caution waved on lap 24 when Stacey Crain made very hard contact with the inside front stretch wall. The wreck also involved Brian Hoar, who was able to drive away but spent the next several laps pitting under the yellow for repairs.

Two laps under green, Dakota Stroup spun into the inside wall at the end of pit road. After hitting the wall at almost full speed, Stroup’s car then cut across the track in front of several cars and was tagged by Harrison Burton. Stroup then stopped against the outside wall going into turn 1. The Owensboro, KY driver was able to walk away from the accident, however he did show his displeasure with Chad Chaffin before walking into the lower pit area.

Nemechek continued to lead, only losing the lead to Campbell once for a brief two lap period. The caution waved again on lap 104 when Bobby Knox, Jr. slowed on the track and stopped without enough power to make pit row low in turn 3.

The red flag came out on lap 120 for a huge wreck going entering turn 1 when Andy Johnson wasn’t able to get up to speed on the restart. The melee involved at least 11 cars, most seriously damaging the cars of Hunter Spivey, Michael House and Davey Coble. Also involved were Bennie Hamlett, Brett Holmes, Corey Deuser, Daniel Bolden, Hoar and Burton.

Mark Day’s race ended on lap 174 when a broken track bar sent him high up in turn 4 where he stopped, drawing a caution.

The restart lasted only two laps before Tommy Joe Martins went spinning wildly into turn 1 after making contact with the front stretch wall.

Suwanee, GA’s Anderson Bowen led lap 192 to become only the third different driver to lead the race. Nemechek resumed the lead with a move going into turn 1.

As the race entered the nighttime hours, Nechechek remained in control.

With the sun setting and the track lights turned on, the race appears to be in Nemechek’s control. On lap 222, Burton brought out the race’s ninth caution with a slow spin coming off turn 2.

Willie Allen, who made his way into the race by winning the last chance race, had slowly made his way into the top 3 while Barnes Jr. continued to run in the top 5. With 50 laps to go, Nemechek increased his lead over Bowen, Allen and Barnes, Jr.

At lap 250, a competition caution waved to allow cars to make their final pit stops during a 5 minute break. All the front runners bolted on their last set of four tires. Barnes, Jr. had a scare when he car would not refire, but with help from a wrecker, the Louisville driver resumed his third place spot.

That set up a 50 lap shootout for the win. Nemechek once again charged into the lead, but as the laps wound down, Bowen turned up the pressure on the 17 year old.

Meanwhile, Allen moved past Barnes, Jr. on lap 270, then passed Bowen six laps later.

With only 20 laps remaining it now became a two car race. The fight for the win was slowed for a spin by Brandon Johnson in turn 4.

On a double file restart, Nemechek picked the inside starting spot which gave him the advantage going into the first turn. With 10 to go, Nemechek opened a five car lead, and held off Allen to the finish.

Nemechek thanked his famous racing father Joe who flew into Nashville from the NASCAR race in Texas Motor Speedway.

Barnes, Jr. finished in third, with Bowen and Acworth, GA’s T.J. Reaid in fifth.

Allen made the starting field by winning the 100 lap last chance qualifying race. Allen’s car was disqualified after post qualifying inspection for being too light. His car had unsecured weight and he was forced to start last in the 17 car field. He passed leader Davey Coble on lap 63 to secure a starting spot. Also advancing from the last chance race were Sterling Marlin, Coble, Will Gallaher, Daniel Bolden and Dalton Armstrong.

Smyrna TN’s Bennie Hamlett was picked as the promoter’s option.

Drivers not making the cut into the All American field included Jefferson, GA’s Micky Cain, Kaz Grala, Flowery Branch, GA’s Dalton Grindle and Wes Griffith.
