JEFFERSON, GA – Augie Grill paced Friday’s practice session for Saturday’s 31st annual World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA.

The Hayden, AL speedster turned a lap at 16.833 seconds, 113.99 MPH, in the final hour of practice Friday night at the half mile, high-banked track.

“Having a fast car doesn’t really mean much,” Grill said of leading practice. “It’s having a fast car for 300 laps. The car’s really good. We’re actually a little better than we were here about a month ago.

“The pole doesn’t do anything for me. I’d just like to win the race.”

Jeff Choquette, who topped Thursday’s round of practice, was second quick on the speed charts with a lap at 16.851 seconds, 113.869 MPH, while Oklahoma’s Donnie Wilson continues to show speed from his mount with a lap at 16.877 seconds, 113.693.

One surprise from Friday’s nights test session sat in the fourth position, as Williston, Vermont’s Brian Hoar, in his first visit to the Jefferson speed plant, turned a lap at 16.878 seconds, 113.686 MPH.

Hoar is no stranger to speed, as he is an eight time ACT Late Model Series champion with 41 tour wins to his credit, including wins in the famed Milk Bowl at Thunder Road speedway in Vermont.

“(It’s) Just an honor to be here, racing with these Super Late Model guys,” Hoar said. “To be even remotely competitive, qite frankly, we didn’t expect to come here and be in the top ten. We hoped by the end of the weekend, we could get somewhere competitive, and so to be as competitive as we are right this minute, we’re just tickled. It’s an honor to be competitive with these guys.”

Stephen Nasse was fifth fastest with a lap at 16.887 seconds, 113.626 MPH.

Harrison Burton, Spencer Davis, Daniel Hemric, Anderson Bowen and T.J. Reaid rounded out the top ten.

Practice was pushed back by almost two hours after rains drenched the speedway late in the afternoon.

The cars will hit the track again for their final practice prior to tomorrow night’s World Crown 300 at 12:15 pm. Qualifying is slated for 5:30 pm, with racing set to begin at 7:15 pm.
