JEFFERSON, GA – They call Bryan Beckner “The Mayor.” But in Renegades action at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA, they may have to change that to “The Man.”

Beckner jumped to the early lead of the Renegades feature on the GMP infield quarter mile layout, and held off several hard charges to score his second straight feature win at the speedway.

Part of Beckner’s winning edge appeared to be the different line he took into the third turn of the quarter mile layout.

“I started backing the corner way up,” Beckner said in victory lane. “Basically, it’s just not killing your exit over here coming to the flagstand where I make up most of my time. It’s a bit of an unusual line. It’s not something you want to do when you’ve got a guy up on your back, but we made it work tonight and got it done.”

On the drop of the green flag, Beckner powered his way to the lead, with Blake Gregory in pursuit. While Beckner moved away, Gregory and Chris Whitfield put on a spirited battle for second. Whitfield would take the spot, but Gregory tried to power back, resulting in a spin off turn four, bringing out the caution.

Back under green, Beckner continued to show the way. Behind him, Tommy Stokes was on the charge, as he moved up to challenge Whitfield for second. As the duo worked off turn four on lap seven, they made contact, sending both into the retaining wall, drawing the second caution of the night. Stokes was able to continue, but Whitfield’s night was over.

On the restart, Stokes challenged Beckner for the top spot, but Beckner would pull off a crossover move coming off the second corner to retake the lead.

From there, it was Beckner’s race, as he drove away to score the victory. Stokes finished in second, with Gregory in third.

In Mini Stock action, the night started with Aaron Calvert and Allen Cantrell battling for the top spot, with Cantrell coming away with the lead. Scotty Beck, who opened the Stockerama season with a victory, powered his way to second, and began working to reel in the leader. The duo raced hard for several laps, with Cantrell holding off Beck’s advances lap after lap.

The first caution flew on lap 19, when Brandon Amos slowed to a stop on the frontstretch with mechanical issues. The caution would fly again one lap later when Calvert stalled his car off turn four.

Meanwhile, Cantrell was able to hold off Beck to score the victory, with Calvert coming home in third.

In other action, Jackie Daniel topped the Sportsman field to score the victory. John Mobley finished second, with Billy Cocker in third and Rob Hubbard in fourth.

Gary Zajdek picked up the win in the Front Wheel Drive feature, with Brian Sutton in second, Kristin Carnes in third and Shaun Mize in fourth.

There was also action on the Gresham Motorsports Park half mile layout. Matt Vasser came away with the win in the Truck division feature. Rodney Benefield came home in second, Ronnie Wehunt in third, Jami Weimer in fourth and Dawson Gay in fifth.

Jason Bates scored his second straight Outlaw Late Model feature win, as he outdistanced Matthew Wragg for the victory. Russell Shore finished in third, with David Murphy in fourth and Marlin Gunter in fifth.

Action returns to Gresham Motorsports Park on June 14, for the third “Stockerama” event, featuring racing from the Mini-Stocks, Renegade, Sportsman and Front Wheel Drive divisions on the quarter mile, while the Outlaw Late Model and Truck divisions will compete on the half mile.
