Kingsport Speedway opened the 2014 racing season Saturday with Kres VanDyle scoring the Late Model Stock victory at the Kingsport, TN speedplant.

VanDyke, of Claypool Hill, VA, led the 60-lap event flag-to-flag, with Zeke Shell, Ryan Stiltner, Paul Nogradi, Jr. and Derrick Lancaster rounding out the top five finishers.

In short-track racing they say anything goes on the last lap. It appeared Nick Cole was headed to victory lane, instead Alan Rich of Sylva, NC, got around Cole on the final circuit to capture the Street Stock win. Finishing third through fifth, respectively, were Royce Peters, Jared Broadbent and John Mamph.

Two-time Pure 4 track champion John Ketron of Kingsport began the season parked in familiar real estate – victory lane – as he won over Kenny Absher, Keith Helton, Dylan Bates and Jon Pittman.

Rocky Yates of Abingdon, VA, outran Freddie Taylor, Billy Duty, Dennis Arnold and Joshua Gobble to record the Mod 4 victory.

In Rookie Pure 4 action, Kingsport’s Michael Jeter got the win over Andrew Hill in second, with Brandon Crumbley in third, Craig Phelps in fourth and Chris Wilhelm in fifth.

Derek Lane of Kingsport recorded the Legends victory.

Kingsport Speedway returns to action on Friday, April 18. For more info, visit newkingsportspeedway.com.
