For Allen Carter, the goal was simple. All he had to do to win the Limited Late Model championship was to start Friday night’s season finale at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, TN. With a 40 point lead over John Earheart entering the night and less than 20 cars entering the feature, Carter had the championship locked up by simply taking the green flag.

It’s a good thing that’s all he needed, too. Going into the first turn of the feature race, fellow competitor Steadman Marlin broke a clutch petal, sending he and a host of others into the wall. Both Carter and Earheart’s nights were done, without completing a lap.

With all this said, Carter was still able to take home the 2013 Express Recycling Limited Late Model Championship. The race however, was a different story. With most of the big names knocked out of the race, Bobby Terry worked his way up from eighth to the lead, where he would remain to score the victory. Mike Mitchell finished in second, with Clint Crowell in third, Duane King in fourth and Kyle Campbell in fifth.

In other action, the Open Wheel Modifieds were the only division that had their points situation wrapped up before Friday night. Brandon Curren was a model of consistency in 2013, cruising to the points championship. Friday’s feature saw a few new names throw their hat into the Open Wheel Modified ring, as Super Late Model stars Augie Grill and Bubba Pollard entered the event. Local favorite Mark Day was a late entry as he subbed for Jeff Letson. However, all of this new blood couldn’t stop Michael House. House was able to hold off a late charge from Johnny Brazier to capture his third Open Wheel Modified win of the season. Day finished in third, with Jim Wall in fourth and Curren in fifth.

The track’s closest points battle of the year was in the Coyote Ugly Sportsman division, where Billy Shaffer, Cody Buford, and Howard Tucker were set to battle it out. Just 18 points separated the top three in points entering the night. Shaffer had really turned it on near the end of the season, as he held the advantage by six points over Buford. It appeared that Buford was going to make a run at the championship as he quickly worked his way to second while Shaffer was running in fifth. However, disaster struck for Buford when contact with Daniel Bradford sent his #42 machine into the fence. Buford would return to the race, but the damage was done. Shaffer was able to lock up the championship after Buford’s issues.

Meanwhile, the battle for first was a white knuckled thriller between Jeff Belt and Thomas Pannell. They ran side by side for lap after lap until Pannell was finally able to get some separation. Pannell would win his first race since June, while Belt would bring it home second. Daniel Bradford, Schaffer and Howard Tucker rounded out the top five.

In Super Streets, fan favorite Bobby Joe Rippey piled up six wins on the 2013 season, catapulting him to a championship. He won the first five races of the season, but the competition definitely caught up with him as the season went on. On Friday night, the Super Street division saw a new winner as Matt Fuqua took home the trophy for his first win in 2013. Rippey finished in second, with Carl Porter in third, William Coats in fourth and Matt Barnes in fifth.

In Pure Stocks, Terry Jackson came into the night just 10 points ahead of his uncle, Tink Jackson. The two drivers had been going at it all year long with it all coming to a head during the final race of the year. Tink needed to finish six positions ahead of his nephew if he wanted the title. This would prove to be a challenging task as Terry had been one of the top contenders all year long. Terry Jackson ran an extremely conservative race, but it paid off in the end. William Coats was able to get the win, but Terry Jackson won the championship. Matthew Adams finished the race in second, with Tink Jackson in third, Terry Jackson in fourth and Joseph Williams in fifth.

In Legends, Chad Davis locked up his 2013 Legends championship by starting the race Friday. Davis was one of the most consistent competitors all season long. He capped off his season by winning another Legends feature to go along with his title.

In Front Runners action, it would have taken a miracle for Matt Barnes to steal the division championship away from Jeffrey Taylor on Friday night, but nothing is ever certain in racing. Barnes was 18 points behind Taylor entering the night, needing to finish 10 spots ahead of Taylor’s #80 machine to take home the hardware. This was a tall task considering only 10 cars entered the event.

Matt Barnes did everything that he could do. He even won the feature event after Wayne Basket was disqualified. Despite all of this, Jeffrey Taylor finished third, taking the Front Runner Championship. Jason Taylor finished second in the race, followed by Jeffrey Taylor, Mark Cummings and Derrick Bissinger.
