Chris Dilbeck jumped out to the early lead, and would go on to score the victory in the season finale in the Georgia For Fair Tax Outlaw Late Model Series season finale at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA Saturday night.

The night started with qualifying, with fast time being tied between Chris Dilbeck and first time Outlaw racer Alex Coffee with a blazing 16.53 seconds each. Coffee was awarded the pole by virtue of the times of their second lap which were 16.59 for Coffee and 16.68 sec. for Dilbeck.

Third fastest was Warren Mobley with a 16.56 sec. lap, and fourth fastest was Russell Fleeman, also in his first Outlaw Late Model start at Cordele, with 16.63 seconds. Fifth fastest was WCS points leader Billy Chancy with a 16.67. 18 total cars, the largest field of the season, were on hand to do battle on the 3/8 mile speedway.

With the cooler temperatures, the tires were cold and did not have a lot of grip until they could get some heat in them. As a result, during the parade lap as the cars were cleaning their tires and trying to heat them up, Coffee lost control of his car and impacted the back stretch wall. This ended the former Legends racer’s night before he could ever take the green.

This moved Dilbeck to the pole and Mobley to the outside front row with Fleeman right behind Dilbeck on the start.

At the wave of the green it was Dilbeck edging by Mobley coming off turn two with Fleeman moving under Mobley. They ran side by side until the caution came out.

The restart had Dilbeck in front with Fleeman on the outside. This restart was repeated many times during the course of the race and resulted in some extremely exciting racing every time. There was some great racing throughout the field that kept the fans cheering.
Dilbeck managed to hold the lead on each restart despite the challenges put up by Fleeman.

In the end, Dilbeck crossed the finish line first for his fifth straight win of the. Second was Fleeman, with Steve Renner in third. David Murphy finished in fourth, with Stuart Dutton in fifth.

Billy Chancy, Mark Bicker, Mike Silvey, Brian Hardman and Stewart Smith rounded out the top ten.
