As the UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Touring Series heads into Williamston, South Carolina for their first of two events at Anderson Motor Speedway, 17 year old Ronnie Bassett, Jr. sees the opportunity to put bad luck from Lonesome Pine Raceway (VA) behind him and is looking to collect his third win of the 2013 season.

Bassett, Jr. was struck with ‘racing luck’ at Lonesome Pine with brake failure and a flat right front tire on the Green-White-Checkered finish, regulating him to a tenth place finish, his worst finish of 2013 and only finish outside the top five.

With two wins this season, Bassett, Jr. has led the UARA-STARS point standings all season and currently has a ten point advantage ahead of Garrett Campbell, Lonesome Pine race winner. Known as the Action Track of the Carolinas, Anderson Motor Speedway is a bittersweet track for Bassett, but continues to be a favorite.

Dating back to 2011, Bassett, Jr. has been the first driver to cross the finish line in the last four UARA-STARS events at Anderson Motor Speedway. In two of the events Bassett hit some snags in post race tech, but he refuses to let them deter he and his No. 04 Bassett Racing team, instead it serves as a motivator.

“Anderson has been a really strong track for my team and I. Unfortunately we’ve also had our fair share of disappointment at Anderson, but regardless it will always be one of my favorite tracks,” Bassett commented. “I like the racing surface, it’s old and tire wear is important. With the new tire compound UARA has switched to, I’m looking forward to how the race plays out Friday evening.”

Bassett, Jr. and his team had the chance to try the new Hoosier F-40 compound during their test session last Saturday afternoon.

“Compared to the old compound, the new tire gripped up more on our qualifying run and seemed to wear the same for us on our longer runs. We learned a lot during our test and I’ll think we will have a good race trim set up when we return,” Bassett said.

With 20 cars on the preliminary entry list for Friday’s event, the racing action looks to impress in accordance to previous shows at Anderson Motor Speedway.

The racing action will get underway at 8 pm Friday evening, and the UARA-STARS will be the third race of the night following the Carolina Vintage Cars and US Legend Cars. Also competing will be the fan favorite Front Wheel Drive division.

Gates open at 5:30 pm with UARA Qualifying scheduled for 5:45 pm. The Series will hold an on-track Autograph Session from 7:00-7:40 pm to allow fans the opportunity to meet the Series stars. The green flag will drop a 8 pm.
