Roberts Scores Buck Simmons Memorial Win At Toccoa

Casey Roberts put on a commanding show for his hometown fans, as the Toccoa, Georgia speedster powered his way out front to lead every lap of Saturday night’s Buck Simmons Memorial to score his second straight win in the event for the Ultimate Super Late Models at Toccoa Speedway.

Roberts led the field down to green jumped out to the early lead, with Chris Ferguson and Brett Miller giving chase. The first caution of the event came on lap eight, when J.R. Headen slowed to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Roberts continued to lead, with Ferguson looking for a way to close ground. The yellow flag few again on lap 19 after Ted Crunkleton slowed on the backstretch. On the restart, Roberts would check out again, with Ferguson giving chase. Behind them, Miller and Clayton Turner fought for third, with Turner taking the spot away. The caution flew for the final time with less than five laps to go, as Brent Dixon suffered a problem coming off turn two.

On the restart, Roberts powered away from the field, leading the final four laps and collecting the victory, leading all 41 laps and collecting the $4,100 payday.

Ferguson finished in second, with Turner in third, Jeff Smith in fourth, and Brett Miller in fifth.

In other action, Rusty Jordan jumped out to the early lead in the Modified Street feature, while Joe McClure and Johnny White batted for second behind him. McClure came away with the position, while White tucked into third. Meanwhile, Daryl Ivester was on the move, and made his way around White to take the third position while up front, Jordan moved away with the lead. Ivester and McClure put on a fight for the runner up spot, with Ivester coming away with the position. Meanwhile, Jordan motored away to the victory. Ivester finished in second, with McClure in third, Billy Buffington in fourth, and Johnny White in fifth.

The FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature had some of the wildest action of the night. After having a false start the first time around, things got wild on the second start attempt. As the field funneled down into turn one, contact between Danny Sanders and Steve “Hot Rod” LaMance led to a multi-car pile up in turn two, leaving the track blocked and leading to a red flag to allow for clean up.

On the next attempt to start, Cla Knight and Danny Sanders battled for the top spot. On the backstretch, Frankie Beard tried to make it three wide, and made contact with Sanders, sending Sanders spinning up the race track, collecting Christ Chandler in the process and setting off another multi-car crash.

The race finally got underway on the next restart, with Beard moving to the top spot, while Knight settled into second and Dale Timms moved to third. The caution flew again on lap four when Greg Ivester and Ricky Smith went around in turn two. They were both able to continue.

On the restart, Beard moved back to the lead with Knight in second, while LaMance moved to third. With five laps to go, LaMance body slammed Knight in turn two while challenging for second, sending Knight around and bringing out the caution again. On the restart, Beard pulls away, and goes on to score the victory. LaMance finished in second, with Timms in third, Ron Parker in fourth, and Greg Ivester recovering from the early spin to finish in fifth.

The Stock 4 feature opened with some wild, side by side racing, as the top four battled for position, with Holten Bradshaw and Kenny Dobbs leading the chase. Bradshaw would come away with the early lead, with Dobbs in second and Justin Lord in third. The caution flew on lap six when James Nash spun in turn four. Back under green, Dobbs came away with the lead, while Bradshaw had to work to hold off a hard charge by Lord for the runner up spot. Dobbs moved away to score the victory, with Bradshaw in second, Lord in third, Nathan Tolley in fourth, and Jackie Holden in fifth.

The Front Wheel Drives closed out the night, with Robbie Cook moving to the early lead, as Keith Hicks and Jackie Holden gave chase. Holden would make the move around Hicks for second, but could do no better than that, as Cook ran away for the victory. Holden finished in second, with Hicks third, Cody Smith in fourth and Kyle Lafountain in fifth.
