Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA has announced a tentative race schedule for the 2013 season that will include nine current race dates between April and October.
The announcement comes just over two weeks after the track played host to CRA’s SpeedFest 2013, which saw 32 cars come out for the Pro Late Model feature, and a field of 31 in attendance for the Super Late Model feature.
The first regular season race is scheduled for April 6. Among the classes expected to run are Outlaw Late Model, Go Karts, Bandoleros, Legends, Mini-Stocks, Enduros, and Super Streets, with appearances of each based on confirmed interest in each division.
Other tentative dates slated for 2013 includes May 4, two June dates on June 1 and June 29, with a nearly month long break before the next race on July 27. That will be followed by dates on Aug. 17, Sept. 14, and Oct. 5, with the season finale tentatively scheduled for Oct. 26.
Speedway officials say additional races may be added based on participation.
Two test dates have also been slated for March 23 and March 30.
Ticket prices for 2013 were also announced, with adult tickets at $10, and children ages 6-12 $5. Children under age 5 will be admitted free.
The speedway’s future had been called into doubt when track manager Marvin Ragan announced he had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in November. Ragan announced in January that, due to the success he had seen in battling the disease, the track would be racing at least once a month beginning in April of this year.
