Billy Bright, Sr. celebrated his third win of the season Saturday night in the Newnan Bonding B Cadet feature at New Senoia Raceway.

The elder Bright bested his son Billy, Jr. to nab an early Father’s Day gift at the 3/8ths mile clay oval raceway.

The win also closed the gap on Bright’s charge towards points leader Jeff Carter.

Other Father’s Day Eve winners included Racin’ Jason Williams in the Mike Wheeler’s Automotive & Transmission Late Models, Tod Darda in the Crown Security Crate Late Models, Clifton Moran in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks and Dusty Jones in the Mini Stocks.

Stockbridge, Georgia’s Jeff Carter shot out to the early lead in the Newnan Bonding B Cadet feature race as the Union City racing team of Billy Bright, Sr. and Billy Bright, Jr. looked to make a racing sandwich out of the points leader in the first two turns.  Carter came away with the lead and held the point until lap nine when his Chevrolet lost power on the back stretch.

Bright, Sr. pounced on the opportunity and shot past for the lead.  Billy Bright, Jr. was the next to get past the reeling Carter with Newnan, Georgia’s Marcus Caswell continuing the slide on lap twelve.

Billy Bright, Sr. then held off a challenge by his son before pulling away to secure his third win of the season.  His victory also helped him chip away at Carter’s points lead.  Bright, Sr. now only trails Carter by 21 points after being down nearly one hundred only a month ago.  Bright, Jr. followed his daddy across the finish line followed by Caswell, Carter and West Point’s Charlie Garrett.

‘Racin’ Jason Williams also closed the gap in the points chase for the Mike Wheeler’s Automotive & Transmission Late Models.  The Locust Grove, Georgia hot shoe used his outside front row starting position to snare the lead from Fayetteville’s Glenn Morris and then never looked back posting the victory.

Morris was the fastest qualifier of the night, but could not find a way past Williams after the initial start.  Morris would finish a solid second ahead of points leader Lavon Sparks.  Newnan’s Rucker Orr made a last lap pass on Thomaston’s Shane Fulcher to come across the stripe in fourth.

On the strength of his fourth win of the season, Williams moved into second place in the point standings.  Phenix City, Alabama’s  Lavon Sparks leads the way with 870 points.  Williams now trails by only seventeen with Fulcher one mark behind him in third.  The three drivers are embroiled in one of the closest points races in the forty-two year history of the track.

LaGrange, Georgia’s Tod Darda claimed his second straight flag to flag win in the Crown Security Crate Late Models.  Darda slid up high on the initial start of the race, but avoided contact with Phenix City’s Russ Ogletree.  Griffin’s Doug Stevens bolted to the low side of Ogletree to try and follow Darda around the up start youngster.  But, Ogletree fought hard for two laps on the outside to finally secure the second place spot.

15-year-old driver ‘Magic’ Matt Dooley continues to improve his skills behind the wheel of a dirt late model.  Dooley patiently waited for his opportunity to move up a spot in the running order and on the eighth circuit was able to get a run on veteran short track racer Doug Stevens.  The Brooks’ teenager completed the pass and then went to work on Ogletree for the second place spot.

Up front, Darda was in control as he pulled away to a several car length lead over the close fight for position between Ogletree and Dooley.  When the checkers fell over the field, Darda had his third win of the season, Ogletree was second ahead of Dooley.  Doug Stevens and Grantville’s Doug Ludwig rounded out the first five finishers.

Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran returned to his 2011 form on Saturday night.  The Carrollton driver picked up his seventh win of the season as he prepared for the upcoming Summer Sizzler special for the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stock division.  Moran shot out to the lead at the drop of the green and never looked back posting the victory.

Brooks’ Mike Jenkins and Newnan’s Rusty ‘Rocketman’ Johnson battled for second side by side for several laps.  Jenkins finally held the position when Johnson dropped from the action for the second straight week.

As Moran, Jenkins and Barnesville’s Eddie Albitron occupied the top three spots in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stock feature, Loganville driver Bill Brown and Newnan’s Zak Sockwell were caught up in a classic New Senoia Raceway fight for fourth.

Brown held the position on the low side while Sockwell ran the high side.  Sockwell would push high in the turns allowing Brown to pull alongside on the straightaways.  The battle ended on lap 15 when Sockwell lost a radiator hose dumping water all over the track and forcing him to the pit area.

Moran topped the final tally with Jenkins second, Albitron third, Brown fourth and Sockwell fighting back for a top five finish.

In the Mini Stock feature, LaGrange’s Dusty Jones passed Douglasville’s Matt Black on lap five to steal away the lead.  Jones fought through traffic on his charge to the lead and sometimes ran his Mustang three wide getting there.

Barnesville’s Gary Parker and Whitesburg’s Dorough Bright came into the night tied for the points lead.  Parker was looking to take the points lead as he raced with Black for the second place spot behind Jones.  Black rolled up the track on lap ten before coming back down and clipping the right front fender of Parker. The contact sent Black spinning towards the infield concrete wall causing the race’s first caution.

New Senoia Raceway rules include a ‘no fault’ procedure where anyone involved with the cause of the caution will be placed at the rear of the lead lap cars.  Due to Parker’s contact, he also was placed at the rear of the field with Black.

The crowd enjoyed the final five lap dash for the checkers.  Jones would hold the point position with Hogansville driver Tim Collier running second.  Douglasville’s Matt Thompson was third with Dorough Bright fourth.  Parker would charge up from his rear of the pack restart position to gain fifth with two laps remaining.  But, Parker could not get past Bright and had to settle for fifth in the final rundown.

Parker now trails Bright by three points in season point standings for the Mini Stocks.  Jones claimed his fifth win of the season and third straight trip to victory lane.

Up next, New Senoia Raceway hosts the Summit Racing Equipment Summer Sizzler on Saturday, June 25.  The summer special will feature an extended lap feature for the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks along with a full night of racing in the Mike Wheeler’s Automotive & Transmission Late Models, Crown Security Crate Late Models, Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Mini Stocks and Bombers.

The pit gates open at 5:00pm Saturday.  The grandstands open at 6:00pm.  Hot laps begin just after 7:00pm with racing set to go green at 8:00pm.
