Stephan, Vanderford, Childers Top Local Qualifying At GMP

The World Crown weekend at Grehsam Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA takes a decidedly local turn today, as the Outlaw Late Model, Mini-Stock and Renegade divisions race in their feature events later today.

First up was European style qualifying for each division.

For the Mini-Stocks, Dustin Stephan turned the fastest time with a 20.503, 87.792 mph.  Scotty Beck was second, Aaron Calvert third, B.J. Thrasher fourth and Darrell Carlson fifth.

Calvert turned fast time in the first round of Mini-Stock practice with a 20.741, 86.785 mph.  Avery Burgess, Beck, Spanky Hicks and Thrasher rounded out the top five.

Hicks had trouble in both sessions, spinning both times off turn two.  He was able to continue on both times.  Also having an issue during his qualifying session was Darrell Carlson, who spun cleanly off turn four and was able to continue.

Trace Embry also spun off of turn four in qualifying, but was able to continue.

Todd Vanderford put his car on the Outlaw Late Model pole with a new division track record run, a 16.993, 105.758 mph.

Matthew Wragg was second, with Mike Davidson third, Jason Bates fourth and David Murphy in fifth.

Wragg paced early practice for the Outlaws with a 17.314, 103.962 mph.  He was followed by Jimmy Motes, Hoyt Stephens, Murphy and Davidson.

Prior to qualifying, Stephens’ car was loaded up by his team and left the track.  There was no word as to why.

In Renegade qualifying, Mike Childers put his name at the top of the scoring charts with a 21.432, 83.987 mph, followed by Ralph Carnes, Jessie Thomas, Mike Childers, and Boo Carlisle.

Childers was the leader in first round practice with a 21.815, 82.512 mph.  He was followed by Carnes, Thomas, Blake Gregory and Carlisle.
