Chris Madden, Brandon Sheppard and Shane Clanton all scored victories last week in World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series action.

Madden took the victory at Minnesota’s Ogilvie Raceway, while Sheppard was the winner at Minnesota’s Hibbing Raceway. Clanton, of Zebulon, Georgia, topped the three night stretch off with a victory at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

On Wednesday, July 12, patience was the key to victory for Chris Madden, as he stalked stalked Brandon Sheppard for 36 laps before making the pass for the lead.

“I can’t thank my guys enough that work hard on this thing to make sure nothing falls off,” said Madden. “We have some tough guys we race with out here. I love racing with Brandon (Sheppard). He is a hell of a wheelman and that kids got a bright future ahead of him.”

With 10 laps to go Sheppard held a 1.713 second lead over Madden, Chad Simpson, and the rest of the field. That’s when Madden began to make his move and began reeling the leader in. With five laps to go, Sheppard and Madden were separated by only .470 seconds. On the next lap, Madden was able to make his pass in turn two for the lead.

Simpson finished in third, with Rick Eckert in fourth and Shane Clanton in fifth.

On Thursday night, Brandon Sheppard secured his ninth series win of the season at Hibbing Raceway by way of a near last lap pass by Chub Frank for the lead.

Sheppard had worked the cushion all race long, allowing him to gain ground on the race leaders from his sixth-place start. Yet, one of the biggest benefactors to Sheppard’s win on Thursday night was Eric Wells, who brought out a caution for mechanical issues that brought his car to a halt on the backstretch. With only five laps remaining in the feature, the caution ultimately erased the .996 second lead Frank held over Mike Marlar in second and Sheppard in third.

“I didn’t know how many laps were left there,” said Sheppard. “I was hoping for a double-file restart but Mikey and Chub both have really good racecars so we just got lucky and got a good run on Mikey coming off of the front stretch and got in front of him getting into (turn) one.”

Marlar finished in third, with Shane Clanton in fourth and Tyler Erb in fifth.

On Friday night, after a pair of top five finishes, Georgia’s Shane Clanton was ready to return to victory lane.

Clanton led all 50-laps en route to his fourth series win of the season at River Cities Speedway.

The win came after rain earlier threatened the event.

“Mother nature threw us a curveball,” said Clanton. “We thought it was going to rain pretty hard and we’ve gotten stuck here in the pits before so everyone loaded up. Thanks to all of the fans for sticking it out and giving us a place to race. This is a cool place. It’s always racy so hats off to the guys that work on this track.”

As the laps wound down, Tyler Erb began closing on the leader, but was not able to mount a challenge as Clanton drove away to the win.

Erb, Sheppard, Mike Marlar and Eric Wells rounded out the top five.
