Benjamin Paces Friday World Crown Practice At GMP

Kyle Benjamin paced Friday practice at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA in anticipation of Saturday night’s World Crown 300.

With ambient temperatures hitting 93 degrees, Benjamin toured the Jefferson high banks with a lap at 16.683 on the cumulative speed charts, besting the field by two-tenths of a second.

Defending World Crown champion Chase Elliott was second on the scoring pylon overall, with a lap at 16.826, leading a host of Georgians in the top five. T.J. Reaid was third fastest with a lap at 16.936. Bubba Pollard was fourth at 16.949, with Spencer Davis, driving a unique Dodge Challenger racer, fifth with a 16.957.

Clay Rogers, Stephen Nasse, Chad Finley, Chris Fontaine and John Hunter Nemechek rounded out the top 10 on the overall speed charts.

Other notables on the scoring pylon included veteran racer Mike Garvey in 11th (17.065), Southern Super Series points leader Daniel Hemric in 13th (17.140), and 2008 World Crown champion Russell Fleeman in 14th (17.186).

Eighteen cars in all took time in the four hour practice session.

Trackside and ticket gates open at 11 am this morning, with the first practice session rolling off at 11. Super Late Model qualifying is slated to roll off at 4:25 pm. Local divisions, including Mini-Stocks, Sportsman/Renegades, Trucks, and Outlaw Late Models, are set to begin at 5 pm. Super Late Model driver introductions are slated for 6:30 pm, with the 30th annual World Crown 300 set to roll off at 7 pm.
