Ross Bailes took the lead near the halfway point of Saturday night’s FASTRAK Racing Series feature at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Virginia, and went on to score the win in the FASTRAK King of the Commonwealth race.
The victory by the Clover, South Carolina driver marked the third different winner in three races for the series on the season.
Brett Hamm jumped out into the early lead, but a multi-car incident coming off the fourth turn on lap two would put a temporary halt to the action. A second accident occurred in the same spot on next attempted restart.
Back under green, Hamm would continue to pace the field until lap eight, when fast qualifier Justin Williams roared to the point. Williams would continue to set the pace through several cautions, while Bailes worked to reel him in under green.
Just before the halfway point of the feature, Bailes would make his move off of turn two to take the lead. A few laps later, Williams’ engine went up in smoke, ending his night on lap 33.
Over the closing seven laps, Bailes would hold off challenges from Logan Roberson and Matt Long en route to the victory.
Roberson had to settle for second, with Long in third, Matthew Nance in fourth, and Corey Almond in fifth.
Hamm, Billy Beachler, Kenny Peeples, Jr., Tyler Arrington and Brad Basey rounded out the top ten.
