Nick Hoffman made his second straight trip to victory lane at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida on Thursday night, as he recorded the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds win at the 47th annual DIRTcar Nationals.

It would also be a repeat performance for Donny Schatz, as he returned to victory lane in the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions feature.

Hoffman came into Thursday night tied with night one winner David Stremme in Gator Points. When the checkered flag flew, Hoffman’s win put him alone on top of the points standings.

“It doesn’t hurt to start up front that’s for sure,” Hoffman said. “I’m not a huge fan of it, but it worked out tonight. Our program is really good right now. It all comes down to maintenance and we’ll just keep doing what we’ve been doing for the past two days. A bunch of seconds and now two wins in a row. Biggest thing tonight was getting out front and getting away from everyone and it worked out.”

Hoffman and Tyler Nicely were scheduled to start on the front row, but Nicely didn’t answer the call for the start. That moved up Mike McKinney to the outside of the front row. On the start, it was Hoffman who shot out to the early lead as the rest of the field jockeyed for position behind him. Kyle Strickler worked to second place and set his sights on Hoffman, who had built up a big lead.

Strickler was able to finally get through the traffic and tried to track down Hoffman late in the race, but the lead was too insurmountable as Hoffman took the checkered flag first by just over a second.

Strickler had to settle for second, with McKinney in third, NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Justin Allgaier in fourth and former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace in fifth.

Allen Weisser, Stremme, Zeke McKenzie, Will Krup and Brian Ruhlman rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Donny Schatz passed six-time and defending series champion Chad Kemenah on lap 25, and went on to win for the second consecutive Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions feature.

Kemenah passed Schatz in traffic on lap nine and led before the Fargo, North Dakota native powered back to the lead on the backstretch.

Kemenah held on for second, with Brad Sweet in third, David Gravel in fourth and Kyle Larson in fifth.

Kerry Madsen, Joey Saldana, Paul McMahan, Greg Hodnett and Tim Shaffer rounded out the top ten.

The 47th annual DIRTcar Nationals continues on Friday night, headlined by the season opener for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, along with the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds.
