Morgan Turpen and Jordon Mallett both made trips to victory lane in USCS Sprint Car Series action at Georgia’s Needmore Speedway over the weekend.

Turpen scored her fifth straight series win in Friday night’s action at the Norman Park, Georgia raceway, while Mallett took his first career series victory on Saturday night.

On Friday night, Turpen drove to her sixth overall victory of the season, taking the lead on lap 18 of the 25 lap feature en route to the win.

Danny Sams III finished in second, with Terry Gray in third. Danny Martin, Jr. came back from a lap three spin to finish fourth, with Jordon Mallett in fifth.

Shawn Murray, Brandon McLain, Scott Hunter, Terry Witherspoon and Matt Kurtz rounded out the top ten.

At the drop of the green flag to start the 25-lap A-Main race, Sams took the lead into turn one followed by Turpen, Gray, Brandon Taylor of Cumming, Georgia and Murray. Lance Moss stalled on the front stretch and Martin spun in turn four on lap three to bring out the caution flag. Joey Schmidt of spun on the restart to bring out the caution for the second time.

Back under green, Sams continued to lead, and as the race reached lap six, the leader closed on lap traffic. As Sams closed on the slower cars, the caution came out when Schmidt made hard contact with the front straightway wall at the exit of the fourth turn to bring out the third and final caution flag of the race. While Schmidt was uninjured, his damaged race car was done for the night.

Sams continued to lead Turpen, but by lap 12, lapped traffic loomed ahead. As the leaders entered turn one on lap 17, Sams got pinned behind a lap car, as Turpen filled in his only passing zone on the inside.

Turpen took the lead in turn two drove away to the victory.

In preliminary action, Gray won the six-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, with Martin, Sams and Turpen scoring heat race wins.

On Saturday night, Jordon Mallett took the lead on the drop of the green flag, and went on to score his first career series victory.

Gray finished in second, with Turpen in third, Pendergrass, Georgia’s Brian Thomas in fourth and Martin, Jr. in fifth.

Murray, Terry Witherspoon, Moss, Tanner Witherspoon and Scott Hunter rounded out the top ten.

Mallett took command of the race at the drop of the green flag, but that quickly gave way to the red light for a three car tangle in turn two that saw the car of Darren Orth get on its side. No one was injured in the shunt. Mallett led Thomas, Brandon McLain, Gray and Moss back to the green flag for the restart.

Mallett clicked off the laps running the high side of the track, but his lead was erased on lap 26 when the red flag came out after Brandon Grubaugh flipped in turn four. Grubaugh was uninjured.

That left a four lap dash to the end, with Mallett coming away with the victory.

In preliminary action, Hoffman took the heat race win.
