Casey Roberts scored his third Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory of the season Saturday night as he picked up the win at Georgia’s Cochran Motor Speedway.
Roberts, from Toccoa, Georgia, moved under Travis Pennington on lap 31 in lap traffic, and went on to score the victory in the fourth annual Georgia Rumble.
It marks the 12th career series win for Roberts and pads his points lead over second place Bo Shirley to 46 points.
Pennington, in his first series start in the 2017 season, led the first half of the race as he and Roberts swapped the lead back and forth several times.
As the laps wound down, Pennington made one last run at Roberts on the final restart, but could not make it stick. He then worked to hold off Michael Page to hold on to second.
Page finished in third, with Austin Horton in fourth and Jason Fitzgerald in fifth.
Georgia veteran Clint Smith had problems all night. First, he rolled his car over in qualifying, but was able to complete his qualifying run. Smith started the feature in his back up car, but saw his night end with a broken driveshaft that left him in 20th position.
Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series returns to action on April 29th at Maryville, Tennessee’s Smoky Mountain Speedway.
