Wilhelm Scores Super Pro Win In Atlanta Dragway Opener

Hank Wilhelm opened up the Summit ET 2017 Drag Racing season at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia with a win in Super Pro action on Saturday.

Wilhelm, who hails from Maysville, Georgia, defeated Ashley Hancock in an all dragster final. Wilhelm ran a 4.981 ET on his 4.97 dial in at 132.95 mph and a better 0.015 reaction, while Hancock ran a 4.794 ET on her 4.78 dial in at 142.61 mph and a 0.030 reaction time.

In other acton, J. D. Burford in his ’08 Corvette defeated Austin Smith in his ’73 Camaro. In the final, Burford ran a 7.889 ET off his 7.80 dial in at 79.46 mph and a 0.062 reaction. Smith ran a 7.403 ET on a 6.89 dial in at 93.09 mph and a 0.010 reaction.

Dickey Forrester in his ’68 Camaro defeated Tim Keeton in his ’84 Chevy S-10 truck for the win in the Sportsman final. Forrester ran an 11.668 ET on an 11.62 dial in at 105.55 mph with a reaction of 0.025. Keeton ran a 13005 ET off his 13.00 dial in at 101.17 mph with the slower 0.173 reaction.

Andrew Patterson won in both bike classes on his ’07 Suzuki 1000.

In the Super Pro Bike final, Patterson defeated David Fletcher on his ’84 Kawasaki. Patterson ran an 8.794 ET on his 8.76 dial in at 140.15 mph and a 0.080 reaction time. Fletcher ran a 9.138 ET off his 9.10 dial in at 137.74 mph and a reaction of 0.104.

In the Street ET Bike final, Patterson defeated Brian Wilson’s red light start. Wilson Patterson ran a 8.774 ET on an 8.75 dial in at 145.47 mph with a 0.077 reaction time. Wilson ran a 12.059 ET off his 11.32 dial in at 114.45 mph and a foul reaction of -0.087.

Eight-year-old Malachi Edwards took the 5-9 JR Dragster final victory, defeating Shawn Wilson. Edwards ran a 12.106 ET on his 11.90 dial in at 53.08 mph and a 0.206 reaction. Wilson ran a 12.348 ET off his 12.35 dial in (break out) at 52.61 mph with a reaction time of 0.223.

Cannon Stiles defeated Kimberly Vancica in the 10-12 JR Dragster final when she left too soon, drawing the red light. Stiles ran an 8.885 ET on his 8.90 dial in at 74.75 mph with a 0.152 reaction time. Vancica ran an 8.940 ET off her 8.90 dial in at 68.22 mph and a foul -0.038 reaction.

In the 13-17 JR Dragster finals, 17-year-old Malone Wilson defeated Ryan Blanton with a 7.988 ET on run his dial in of 7.95 at 77.92 mph and 0.079 reaction. Blanton ran an 8.733 ET off an 8.73 dial in (dead on) at 74.64 mph and a reaction time of 0.158.
