Ross Bailes powered to his first Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series victory by holding off Mike Marlar for the win Sunday at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina.

The Clover, South Carolina driver drove from third place on a restart to power around Brandon Overton and Mike Marlar en route to the win in the series season opener and the $10,000 payday that went with it.

Bailes had to hold off one final challenge from Brandon Overton, who made the pass for the lead on lap 52, but saw the pass negated when a spin by Chris Ferguson brought out the caution before the lap was complete.

Bailes went on to lead the closing laps to score the victory, with Marlar in second, Blairsville, Georgia’s Jonathan Davenport in third, Overton in fourth and Chris Madden in fifth.

Don O’Neal, Justin Williams, Darrell Lannigan, Casey Roberts and Dennis Franklin rounded out the top ten finishers.

The All Star Dirt Racing Series returns to action on March 17 and 18 in a two day event at Milton, Florida’s Southern Raceway.
